Taming the Taman-Busuk game thread: Outpost 1

He is an half-ogre . "

The smiling Kinan scowls at this and mutters under his breath through a clenched jaw, "Scurrilous lying cook." The black look he gives as his fist clenches could kill. With a visible conscious effort he lets out his breath and unclenches his jaw and fist. He shakes his head and a smile returns to the big man's ugly face as he looks over the outpost and its soldiers. "I'm Kinan, nice to meet you Tanner. I've got one quick question. Is there a well stocked mess hall? It's been a good number of leagues on our feet and our little cook is more used to serving goblin sized apetites than man-sized ones."

"Hey... it is not my fault if you have an ogre size apetite. I did enough food for everyone. More than once, I had to clean the half eaten plate of some other, you could have just eaten that if you were so hungry." tells Yeblin. he turns his attention to the guards. "Not his fault. He is not use to eat. Have you ever eaten with nobles. They bring fifty plates and eat a small peice of each plate, and throw away the remianing. They aren't happy if you offer them only a single plate. That's why he is hungry. At least, us, when we make fifty palte, and there is a lot of food left, we don,t throw it away, we throw it at our host who generally replicate by throwing some smashed potatoes. but the best projectile is the tomatoes. They have a good grab and they splat well once they hit the target. It's been a while I havn't done a food fight. It must be ten years ago. I must tell I prefer to see my meal eaten than use in a food fight, it must be for this reason I didn't take part of a food fight for that long. But big people don't like food fight." felling the dwarf still pushing him. "Good idea, let's go to the mess hall, so I can prepare a good meal"

The dwarf let the words fade into the air as he pushes Yeblin forward
By the god's name, move along and stop babble.

Kell moves up next to the dwarf.

"If we move on, you know he'll only talk more. The more he sees, the more he has to comment on."

He looks up at Tanner.

"My voice is fine, by the way, but soup does sound good. Or anything else, for that matter. We've been moving at a good clip. No time to hunt, you see?"

Aye must have read our minds! Ulricsohn pipes up.

Indeed, I know just the place. Velgaard! Tanner shouts up to the tower above, Take charge down here. We're taking the new arrivals into town!

Right away!

While we're headed into town I'll over a couple things you need to know. First off, the outpost is divided into two areas. First is the outer defense perimeter, where we are now. Most all of our defensive fortifications, equipment and operations go on here. As members of the defense force, you'll be permitted in all areas of the outer defense perimeter, but mostly you'll be assigned to a particular quadrant by your platoon leader. Next is the inner residential area, where civilians live and work, and where we retire to once our shifts are over. Civilians may be restricted to the inner area depending on our alert status. You see the green pennants with the crowns inset along the wall? Those indicate secure status, no immediate danger of attack. Civilians are free to move about the outpost as they may. But we recommend they keep to the roads going into and out of the post and the inner area. There are a lot of construction projects going on and we don't want civilians risking injuring themselves near those. Ulricsohn, you have the other alert pennants on you?

Aye I do. He unfurls from his pack a yellow pennant with a rose. This here indicates caution status, when we believe an attack is coming. Under caution, civilians are restricted to the inner residential area. All defense force troops should also report to their CO for orders, and then remain on watch until further notice. Finally, when things really go awry, you have the alert banner. He shows a red pennant with a sword. This guy means attack is imminent. All defense forces report to battelstations and civilians to the designated shelter areas inside the town. So far we've been lucky enough not to have had to show this baby for real.

Here we are lads and ladies, Luke's Taverne and Grille, best place to grab a bite anywhere in town. Eggs, bacon, soup, and the best coffee north of the Plains.

Oh don't start! You're almost as bad as that half-elf lass who rolled through a few months back. She always had a cup on hand.

Kell grins.

"Well, that sounds pretty good to me. You seem to have a pretty good setup here but...well, I guess I wouldn't expect any less from the Knights. You mentioned a half-elf woman. Who was she? Seems a bit unusual for someone like her to be around these parts but..." Kell gestures to the kender. "...these are unusual times, I suppose."

The ranger tries his best to be jovial and friendly, but his performance is a bit forced and stiffer than he'd like.

Yeblin doesn't hear Kell, he just tells "I'll take care of the food, finish the trip, I'll do it later, we'll need to eat soon. Anyone want to try my Super Explosive chicken?" he asks, and after the people haev answered or has ignored him (as usual), he will enter the tavern and move to teh kitchen to help to prepare food and mugs of ale.

Yeblin is intercepted by the owner of the place, who hauls him back to the rest of the group.

I have a very clear rule about kender in my kitchen. He says, pointing at a sign saying very distinctly

No Kender in the Kitchen!

Either the kender stays out here, or you go.

Ulricsohn gives a round of mock applause. Not even here a minute and you've already incurred the wrath of Luke. I believe that's a new record, ya?

Indeed, not many who can claim that honor. Just kender, and well, that half-elf Ulricsohn mentioned. Mironallia of Mishakal, or Mir as we took to callin' her. Aye she was a right enough lass and all, bein' a cleric and so forth, but had a bit of an odd way about her, drinkin' all that coffee and talkin' 'bout as fast as a gnome does.

Indeed, but she was right pretty lookin' ya? I mean if she weren't a priestess and all...

Manfred Ulricsohn, you'll never make Knight of the Crown with your mind and your eyes always on the ladies. You have to be forthright in your duty and bearing.

Oh pay no attention to Revered Father Tanner here, he's just as bad if not worse!

yeblin doens't seems happy as he is drag outside his kitchen. "You know, that is rude, and I am a cook, you should taste my meal. I am quite sure I could teach you a few good meals that you could add to your menu. You should taste my steak, it is sooooo good. Last time I made it, I made it to a great knight. When he taste it, he told me it was the best steak he had ever tasted. Poor guy, he almost got an heart attack the day after when he was going to hunt. He entered the stable and talk to the stable boy. A moment later, he had fainted. They day after, I was suggested to come here, they told me they needed a good cook in this outpost, so I volonteer. Too bad I left my horse meat there, I could have made some. You should taste it. The secret is in the sauce. Pepper and spice that put in evidence the subtle taste of horse meat. We should talk about a bit about my best meals and yours, so we could learn from each other." he suggest that to Luke, always having forgotten the rude way he had push him out of his kitchen.

[sblock=yeblin]Luke wasn't throwing you out of the place altogether, just out of his cooking area.[/sblock]

You order your meals while Ulricsohn continues in on Tanner. And as far as becomin' knights we'll be able to do that soon enough. We've served at this outpost since the first stakes were put down, and now we both have our application fees squared away. Shouldn't be anything more to it ya?
