Tannhäuser: The RPG?

Tannhäuser: The RPG?

Did anyone have a look at this totally sweet-ass boardgame from FFG and think, "Holy crap, this is just waiting to be an RPG. A d20 Modern minigame style conversion at the very least?" 'coz I know I did.

I'm curious; how would you go about doing it? I've already tentatively committed to a few people to try and run this by next year's GenCon (if not sooner) so I'm just trolling for ideas at this stage. The setting itself is very intriguing but could certainly use some fleshing out. I'll probably go something really simple with the rules, and just kludge together a d20 Miodern + d20 Past conversion of some kind.

Sounds great. As long as you don't use some crap like Unisystem.*

* - Unisystem fans... this is an in-joke. No actual indictment of your game is intended.

Yeah, I thought about this too (though D20 modern wouldn't necessarily be my system of choice here... but I'd play it!)

How do you like the board game? I was able to watch a short demo and purchased the game based on that demo, but, it still sits on the shelf unopened as of yet. I was torn between this game and Dust, and since a friend picked up Dust, I went with this one.

Are there any online reviews yet?

There's a review/discussion thread over on the Circvs at least. I liked it quite a bit. That said, I still think the game's fluff is it's strong point, and I'd almost rather see some more development along those lines than in terms of more rules, honestly.

That said, have you seen the concept art for the new Soviet faction? Holy :):):):)ing :):):):).

I wrote up a surprisingly lengthy review over on Circvs where we're discussing it.

Also, check out the video trailer:

I played the demo at GenCon. The game itself looks great, especially the minis. A few people (including myself) asked if the minis could be purchased separately.

The fluff is also very cool. It has a Return to Castle Wolfenstein feel. Very dark and supernatural.

The mechanics I didn't like so much. It's basically opposed d10 rolls and count the successes but there were too many chances for one-shot kills and abilities that you couldn't defend against.

For a combat board game, I much prefer Descent or Doom.

As far as an RPG version goes, Spycraft is a no-brainer, especially with the variety of campaign qualities. It would be a period military horror game. Spycraft could handle it with minimal changes (maybe just d20-izing some of the gear).
