D&D 5E Tarrasque Modifications.

A level 1 wizard cannot kill a Tarrasque as written.

Well I meant the Tarrasque as written. A level 1 wizard as written COULD have magical gear (if a level 1 wizard with wings of flight and an unlimited number of level 1 scrolls can take on T, then bad design; I havent ran the numbers but above in this thread I did specify some desiderata (EDIT: that a single PC wouldhave to acheivein order to take on the Tarrasque at level 1, or above)....

I mean, if the wizard gets magic items for no reason other than to kill the Tarrasque, why shouldn't a Tarrasque get magic items for no reason other than to kill a wizard 😛

Magic items aren't supposes to be handed out like candy in this edition anyways.

No a rich benefactor WISELY equips the 'strongest' person inn the land with some items to take on the threat (not that crazy RP wise)... but we dont need magic items necessrily; as you point out; just an Aarakocra and the appropriate cantrip...

Good point that T could have some items as well but...
heck WE could run the battle right here if we wanted!

In my campaign, a tarrasque would just swat the wizard out of the sky with a tree, boulder, building or whatever is handy. Monsters don't have to have things specifically written down. A tree would make a decent improvised spear which is a simple weapon which doesn't require proficiency. I'd probably also improvise rules on range (using carrying capacity as a guideline) for huge missiles because this is a gargantuan creature.

I know some of that might be considered house rules so it could also charge in, run away, ignore them and destroy the city and so on. It's going to take a long, long time to do any significant damage.

On the other hand, 50 ft flight is huge which is why I'd never allow an Aarakocra in my campaign. With the right build it could devastate any melee based monster. YMMV.

To be clear, the beam attack being unlimited range is only slightly to deal with that kind of cheese. (there are many variations on it that also work at high level).

The other reason is that it is crazy epic. The tarrasque, as it approaches the valley city, shoots beams that destroy lines through the place.

135*2 = 270 damage. That is 2+ feet of "wall of stone" HP per breath, and one breath every 12 seconds.
