I'm having trouble with this spell in my campaign: two of 5 character's in the party cast this spell agains every powerful enemy they come across. It's hurting me because (as the DM) I put a lot of thought into my major NPCs and it's not worth it for them to spend the entire battle rolling on the ground while the fighters hack at them to death. Now I'm an experianced DM, I know my way around rules like this, but I don't believe I should have to make every major villian an undead or ooze or whatever. The spell I think is too powerful as written, if successful it takes the character out of the fight. compare it to "hold Person" which acomplishes a similiar goal, but is one level higher (for sor/wis) and allows a new saving throw each round. Also compare it to "scare" which will take a character out of the fight, but doesn't rob them of their ability to get away from attackers. I'm thinking of two fixs:
1) give them a new saving throw each round
2) change the first paragraph of the effect so it reads as follows:
"This spell afflicts the subject with uncontrollable laughter. It has a hard-time controlling itself in battle, the subject's speed is halved, and all attacks are made at a -4 penelty. Also spells with verbal components are impossible to cast, and those with somatic components can only be cast with a successful concentration check DC 20."
I'm looking for feedback
