Teach 30 People to Play D&D

With the 30th Anniversary of D&D coming this fall, I had a weird idea. Could I introduce 30 people to D&D between now and then? People who have never played before?

Simple adventures with pregen characters. Lots of action and fun. If a few get hooked, good for me and good for the hobby.

I will let you know how it goes.

I'm hoping to get another anniversary T-shirt, my 25th is getting a bit threadbare.

Good gaming!

teach them real D&D.

Original D&D(1974) is the only true game. All the other editions are just poor imitations of the real thing. :D

Insults erased. You know the rules, so please respect them. This might be a good time to use the "ignore" feature. ~ Piratecat

And to stay on topic: Great idea Imhotepthewise! Good luck, I wish I had the time (and access to an audience) to do the same.

Well, they were hardly what I would call really hurtful insults. But I have done so (I admit that I thought that feature was only for ENWorld supporters - it doesn't appear on the drop down menu that appears when you click a member's name, maybe something to think about, if it can be changed at all). I still think it's an annoying position diaglo takes up and if my "insult" had to be erased then I am amazed that he can continue to spew forth this (and all his other, IMO, inane comments about anything not "original 1974 D&D") without getting a cease and desist slap on the wrist too. Maybe you're buddies, I don't know, he seems awfully fond of the quote in his sig., but when I have seen so many comments on various threads from others about their annoyance with this, again IMO, drivel, I would say that it should send a clear message to the moderators.
Sorry for hijacking the thread, I guess it just goes to show how much it annoys me.

Neat idea. I've been thinking of teaching my children to play, but looking at it this way, the 3.5 rules seem awfully hard for kids (one is 10). I was thinking on starting them on 1E (no flames please - I'm only talking about rule simplicity). Any other thoughts on D&D lite that might work for introducing kids to the game?

Sure you could. You might have trouble trying to rally 30 friends/acquaintances to sit and learn (though you could probably get a handful) but you might be able to pull it off by running one-shots at a local game store and advertising them as being for newbies. Have fun!

Sounds like a good idea to me. The more people introduced into the hobby the better.
