just 1.

the notion that gamers have a "responsibility" to introduce new people to the hobby, well, sorta bugs me. :\

btw, nice pic, dragon snack

You are obviously a highly intelligent and wonderful person. Probably good looking too... :D

Hmmm, past year would be...12 exactly.

Last five years would add 14 more for a total of 26. 6/26 were female, and many do not continue to play very often. I don't think I have ever played with anyone (except at Cons) who I didn't teach to play the game myself. Not that I wouldn't want to play with veteran players--they just (ironically) don't really exist ay my school in numbers high enough to find them.

I've been reading a lot of threads the discuss ways to keep the game alive. Getting new players into the game is an obvious hurdle to expanding the hobby, so I'm curious as to how people address that in their groups. How many players have you personally introduced to D&D within the last year and how did that work out?

5, though this was two years ago. I only count the ones who were not playing D&D beforehand, not the ones I have Dmed, but where already playing with someone else.

I've introduced one, and re-introduced two other players who hadn't played in several years.

Speaking of introducing players to the game, I see that most people believe most people learn the game from existing players, rather than from the books themselves. I know I learned the game from the books first (Mentzer red box). I wonder what the actual proportion is?

To follow the poll I had to vote 0

But, since 3E came out I have brought in about a dozen and all were teens or 20's so hopefully they will be around for a while.

I haven't introduced anyone to gaming--regardless of genre--within the past year.

Within the past four years, however, I have introduced two people to gaming via my tabletop campaign. One of them became an avid participant and to my knowledge still games online all the time. The second person our group introduced enjoyed the game. He was only 15 when he sat in with us and I haven't seen him for a couple of years now so I don't know whether he continued on with the hobby.

I've offered to run a one-shot adventure with pre-canned characters for a game night at my church but, sadly, got sick and had to cancel attending. I was looking forward to getting a few friends--adults and kids both--at church hooked on gaming. :)

One person. The girlfriend of a friend. She was mostly just playing to be included and was a bit overwhelmed by character creation. I doubt she'd be inclined to play again, quite frankly.
