Just got Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for Christmas and it has co-op (online and off). Also, it's awesome.

Definitely not offline (well - maybe system link. Not split-screen, in any case).

That's the entirety of Xbox Live, AFAIC.

Forming online groups of players you know can help. Some friends and I have done that, so we can have some mature players who are less inclined to sit there running their mouth off. Lately it seems I've run into real jerks online....people spouting racial ephithets and slurs, morons who think it's a great idea to put their mic right beside their boom box and start blasting poor rap music so everyone else in the game has to listen to their noise, etc.

Halo can be awesome with a good group who work together on team objectives though. You just have to cut out the losers.

As what the others have said, here's what I know (and have) that has co-op [no Xbox Live Gold needed]:

- Halo 3
- Gears of War
- Ultimate Alliance
- Perfect Dark Zero

Add to this:

PGR 3 (and, I assume, 4)
Blazing Angels (dogfights in split screen)
Kameo - has co-op play through the entire campaign
NHL 07 - can accommodate up to 4 players in a match.

Maybe Battle for Middle-Earth?

Also, online, there are a few others:

Ace Combat 6 (I think) - it has multiplayer battles, I think consisting of things like massive team-based aerial dogfights, etc.
Splinter Cell Double Agent

I'm sure there are others, but I'm running out of ones that I remember.

CoOp is becoming more common, but right now only Gears of War and Halo3 spring to mind. Perfect Dark 0 had CoOp also, but I didn't like it, so there ya go.

Of the two, Gears had it more integrated (sometimes you split up), whereas Halo3 treats it like multiplayer (one guy dies, respawns at another guy if the other guy is in a safe place).

Keep in mind that in Gears, if one person dies while they're split up, both do. I don't think it's that different from Halo, actually.

While split up, you both lose that part perhaps, but Halo3 never splits you up. You have to both die before someone can make it to safety. Gears in normal circumstances the wounded sits there until you heal them.

Which is one of the neat things about Gears...:)
