Telephone Interviews

My consulting firm has several jobs open, if you're willing to move to Richmond, VA, Charlotte, NC, or Raleigh/Durham, NC. That goes true for anyone else, too. These are I.T. positions.


I find the phone screen to be more and more common nowadays. I don't know what field you're in, but I.T. has a lot of real flakes in it, so they can screen those out fairly easily over the phone.

And I HATE phone interviews. I've done several as part of my current search and never feel as good about them as I do face to face ones. But that's just me.

Stand and pace slowly while talking. Makes a BIG difference.

Yeah, too late, but I wanted to say that I agree with this. It probably depends on the person, though, so a body should just try to be comfortable. I've done more than my fair share of public speaking, so I've learned to think better and be more comfortable standing than sitting. Not an opportunity I get in a face-to-face.

If my phone cord were long enough, and my room uncluttered, I might well have done the thing pacing slowly. I'm one of those folks that often walks while thinking.

I can see some utility to doing a phone screening for IT work, as I know enough IT flakes myself This is for tech-writing, not IT, but I figure the phone call is cheap and not too time consuming. Luckily, while I'm wierd, I'm not flakey enough to seem so over the phone

My proof? They've offered me an interview on Monday. So, we now move forward...

Congrats on getting through the phone interview, as an IT specialist I've had a few a mix of techncial or personal screening types, still don't enjoy them though.
