Tell me about Battle Box

Another vote for Battlebox - I use it all the time. The spell templates are great fun. It really helps capture the feel of the fight (as well as being a good tactical representation) when you can slap down a real-size fireball, lightning bolt or fog cloud on the table. I like the maneuver cards, but haven't used them so much as I have discovered that I seem to know the maneuvers now by heart. The battlemat is good and has seen a lot of use (along with the same sized one in the Arcana Evolved Battlebox), but only once I plasticised it. Now I simply roll it up and take it along.

You guys got a metal d20 in your boxes? Mine was a teeny little plastic d20. I have metal dice anyway, but it's cool if they are now packaging those along with the Battlebox - one more reason to pick it up!

I got the same as you Mark, a little red d20. I think the new ones come with the metal d20 (and also possibly a CD).

Alternatively, that may just have been a Gencon special. I really don't know. And yeah - it was brushed steel - not pewter. Yes, Dwarven forge sells matching brushed steel dice for it. I'm thinking of getting some this year at Gencon.

Great D20 though. It was the highlight of a rather nifty product.

OK, interesting. Those metal dice are sweet. My AE Battle Box came with a cd with a ton of extra goodies on it, but my standard one didn't. Sounds like FDP have really upped the value. They're a great company!

The steel d20 came with the Revised edition of the BattleBox.

What are these spell templates like? Just paper? How do they work?
The really big ones (like fireball or fog cloud) are paper, folded up in the box. The others are on card. They include small ones for things like spiritual weapon or flaming sphere, circles and cones of various sizes (up to 30'), lines (including a specific one for lightning bolt) - that sort of thing. You just lay them down on the battlemat. One drawback, of course, is that they obscure whatever counters are on the mat (we had a brief hiccup with this the other night when a gehreleth cast a fog cloud on the PCs). It can be a bit fiddly to replace all of the counters on top of the fog cloud and then place them all back in their proper places again once it is gone (we just left it in place, and pretended it wasn't there anymore, lol). I'm thinking of checking out the steel wire templates from Steel Sqwire as another option, but they're a bit $$$ :\
