I could be interested in buying the DVD. I just want to know what you think about this movie, what the story is about, is it well done (combats, etc.)?

I also liked it alot but I have a hard time describing what I liked about it. I rented it with no preconcieved notions and I think that helped out a lot.

It's about a guy going through hard times when he learns that he's actually a Baron in a far-off country. Somewhere along the way he decides to take his oath of knighthood seriously and be good & moral.

In the real world, however, his outlook challenges the local politics and real life situations and thus make him a dangerous man. He makes enemies and friends and then has to hold the city against impossible odds.

I think you'll like it and as danbuter stated above, the cinematography was excellent.

Fighting? I don't remember a lot of one-on-one battles but that really isn't the flavor of the movie. I found the battle sequences engaging none-the-less.

I would have rated it as an average hollywood historical epic, not bad, better than several others released recently (not saying much) but not a classic.

Good battle scenes comparable to RotK.

Took a few historical liberties (that can be viewed as good or bad) but was reasonably accurate on a lot of things. The way the piety fo the Christian Knights was protrayed was where the movie was most off (characters were way too secular sometimes). As Scott said himself, in doing the movie you focus, and perhaps embellish, the interesting historical stuff and glaze over the boring stuff. That's basically what he did.

Hard to rate it. I'd say it's definitely worth seeing but not a must-see. I'd consider renting it or trying to get it at a discount price.

Agree with this post

This was one of those movies that I should have really enjoyed, but only marginally liked. I'm not demanding that two hours of my life back but you could easily skip it and not have missed anything. All of the proper elements are there, the set and costume are great, the subject matter should be interesting, but it falls flat. I felt like I was attending a college lecture narrated by a history professor with a severe monotone.

I liked it when I saw it in theater. But then I also like Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Gladiator, too.

It's not like I'm expecting it to be adventurous as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves or Pirates of the Caribbeans.

Mind you, these days I find more entertainment on PBS than on any of the other networks.

I saw it in the theater. I really liked it. I had no idea that was Edward Norton until like 2 days after I saw it. I was amazed at his performence.

I absolutely hated it, but I had incredibly high expectations and was actually really looking forward to seeing it... I left very, very disappointed as I could hardly stay awake, felt no connection to the characters, and - in the end - didn't care who won or lost. It was a ramshackle, uninteresting, and genuinely boring film. Blah.

I didn't have as negative a reaction to it as you, perhaps because I had no real expectations going in, but the film did fail to grab me. Just like you, I didn't really care about the characters or who won. The people who saw it with me had exactly the same reaction. I thought during the movie and afterwards that in theory it was a really interesting story, but unfortunately, it remained that way only in theory. The execution was sadly lacking.
