Roughly half my collection is from Criterion. A lot of the others are from Image and Kino.
Whenever I've seen a rollout of a new format in my lifetime, I've seen rare and hard to find films show up early and soon go out of print. Part of the tactic of getting film-lovers on board early. Hence, I missed a lot of rare movies in the days of VHS and Laserdisc. I wasn't about to miss the chance to own my very own Lord of the Flies, Man with a Movie Camera, or Marat/Sade, so I started hoarding DVDs long before I bought a player. Started collecting in '98. After a year or so, my ex-wife saw the stash and demanded I actually buy a player.
My collecting has dropped off considerably since the early days. DVD Empire no longer calls wondering if I'm OK.
