Tell me about your DVD collection!

Roughly half my collection is from Criterion. A lot of the others are from Image and Kino.

Whenever I've seen a rollout of a new format in my lifetime, I've seen rare and hard to find films show up early and soon go out of print. Part of the tactic of getting film-lovers on board early. Hence, I missed a lot of rare movies in the days of VHS and Laserdisc. I wasn't about to miss the chance to own my very own Lord of the Flies, Man with a Movie Camera, or Marat/Sade, so I started hoarding DVDs long before I bought a player. Started collecting in '98. After a year or so, my ex-wife saw the stash and demanded I actually buy a player. :o

My collecting has dropped off considerably since the early days. DVD Empire no longer calls wondering if I'm OK.

101 DVDs
28 boxed sets

I have a wide variety from some Capra fliks to some foreign films to big blockbusters and cheesy romance titles. :D

At work so can't count how many, but stick to regular movies (everything from the A&E version of Pride & Prejudice to the Die Hard series to The Last Unicorn to The Stand)

Only box sets I have are more limited: ST:TNG (last season), ST:DS9 (seasons 1-4), Xena (hey I liked it!), LotR (all 3), and Futurama.

And I guess all those I's should change to we as it is a joint collection with my husband... though Xena, the last unicorn, and Pride and Prejudice amongst others I am sure he will let me claim as mine alone :)

I think I'm at about 300. I don't want to bore you folks by posting a list, so I won't. I was on a DVD buying spree a couple years ago. I bought everything that I was interested in, with little regard for the "Will I ever re-watch this?" factor. Now I use NetFlix, which I am very happy with.

Here is what remains in my collection since my gf moved to Vancouver.

And just for sake of completeness here's her, larger collection. Although she's probably got even more now.

My sister & I made a deal a few years ago. Since we live within 30 miles of each other, and visit each other almost every weekend, we sorta split a number of dvds. Essentially if she & her husband buy one, I won't, and vice-versa. This allows us to nearly double our collections (although, of course, there are some they pick up that I dislike, and she has never understoond my obsession with David Lynch...).

A way to keep the costs down ;)

TV Series;

Babylon 5, Seasons 2-5 (missing 1)
Batman the Animated Series: Volumes 1 & 2
Blackadder, the Complete Collection
Buffy, Seasons 1-7
Chapelle Show, Season 1
Farscape, Seasons 1-3 (missing 4)
Kids in the Hall, Seasons 1&2
Kung Fu, Seasons 1&2
Samurai Jack, Season 1
SCTV, Volume 1

77 movies (mostly Scifi and Comedy), 1 Yoga vid, 1 music vid.

I have a moderate collection most it fantasy and historic fiction. I don't have my collection to hand so I can't list them all without missing a bunch.

There are three DVDs/videos in my collection that do spring to mind as they're of particular interest to gamers:
  • Uber Goober
  • The Gamers
  • Orcadia
I also have a tape of a nostalgia TV programme called I Love 1984 which features a segment about RPGs and pick-your-path gamebooks.

And I have the DVD of the Futurama episode featuring Col. Pladoh.

Well I won't give a complete list. With over 110 DVDs (and an equal number of VHS tapes) the major categories seem to be
Superhero movies (Hulk, Daredevil, Spiderman, X-Men etc.)
Anime (Spirited Away, InuYasha Season One + 2 movies, Grave of the Fireflies, Castle in the Sky etc)
Fantasy (13th Warrior, LotR, Robin Hood (w/ Patrick Bergin and Uma Thurman), Princess Bride, etc)
General Cratoons (Family Guy, Futurama, Loony Toons Golden Collections etc)
Action (tons in this category from Gladiator to Terminator and most everything in between)

Strangley sci-fi in one of the smaller categories i have probably only 6 DVDs devoted to pure sci-fi.
