Tell me if this metaphor makes sense.

To describe a person who is staying away from electronic media (i.e. putting away the iPod, shutting off the TV, avoiding the internet) would it make sense to say this person is pursuing an "analog mind"?
(As opposed to digital, ya see).

My confusion stems from the fact that "analog" might mean more than I realize. :heh:

I would say not really. The difference between digital and analog is just the means of interpreting a signal - digital code vs. wave frequency/amplitude (TV is currently available both as a digital and analog signal, though not for much longer in the US).

"Digital mind" to me would imply a two mode way of thinking - on/off, black/white, yes/no.

"Analog mind" would imply a more variable mindset.

Gotcha. I will not use the metaphor then, for fear that people will read it and say, "Uh, this dude doesn't really know what 'analog' means, does he?" :D

Thanks for the clarification. Enworld rules. ;)

Yes, analogue is just how the signal is worked with, and nothing to do with technological advancement. A slide rule is analogue, but an abacus (less advanced) is digital, for example. There are analogue electronic computers as well as digital ones, but they're rare and specialised.

How about "offline mind" to describe an avoidance of modern communications systems?

Note.
only the analog airel signal is going away in the US. Cable TV will still be broadcasting in Analog for all those folks who don't want to buy a new TV.

I was just going to suggest Luddite, though, in truth, that'd be more extreme than just eschewing digital technology.
