Tell me why you love the Draconomicon

As others have said, fully-statted dragons of each major type & age category, plus lairs, strategies & tactics. Also, the draconic template for non-dragon critters is absolutely fantastic and helped my campaign in a big way. I also love the detailed work on dragonbone and dragonskin items, which has proven useful. Some of the spells are neat. Some of the prestige classes are useful to my campaign & fantastic (especially the dragonrider & dragonsong lyrist). I also appreciate the beautiful art. Buy this book.

I like the book for the artwork, as well as the ideas and support for playing dragons as characters though I have one gripe to point out. My roomate was going to run a dragon PC game, but when we were going through the book, we found that they didn't have a table of stat adjustments for some of the typical colored dragons and had to go to Savage Species for them.

I like about a quarter of it. The statted and personalified examples of each of the age categories etc at the back is excellent, and potentially a great help. The sample lairs are quite good too.

However, most of the rest of the book left me feeling a bit blah; I don't think I'll ever use the prestige classes, magic items, dragon spells etc. None of it appeals to me.

I would happily have paid less for just the last 77 pages (the statted dragons).

First off, I love this book. The artwork alone sold me on it. Best product in a long time.

But what I really like is the Goods (treasure) generating tables in the back. Awesome. I much prefer a list of generators than sample treasures (which the book also has!) which become redudant after a while.

Purty...

I think this sums it up - One of the special abilities the Dragon only PrC Dragon Ascendent gets at level 12 is IMMORTALITY.

Failing that... well, PCs can kill the dragons in the MM. Its concievable that they cant take down the ones in the Draconomicon. Its ALL about buffing that breath weapon.

Plus it has pretty pictures :)

I don't own the Draconomicon yet but was wondering: Should I buy the Draconomicon or EGG's Slayer's Guide to Dragons?

Can someone tell me which is better? Maybe they're both just as good and I should buy both.

I wonder if I'll have the same problem when Liber Mortis comes out? Should I buy Liber Mortis or EGG's Slayer's Guide to Undead?

Why didn't they call the Liber Mortis the Necromonicon? That would have rhymed with Draconomicon. :)

Mmm, I have both, but not at hand. Here's what I remember; I'll look again when I get home.

Draconomicon is twice as expensive. It has fabulous art. Most of it's strengths have been outlined above.

The Slayer's Guide to Dragons has a short adventure, based on some of EGG's Greyhawk material (a few names are changed, but Greyhawk fans should recognize some things). It has a nice essay by EGG on how he created the different dragon types. It has a new Dragon age type (something older than the oldest core age).

Can't remember much else. It's 3.0; don't remember how significant that is.
