D&D 5E Tell me your positive experiences with HotDQ

Well it was fun when my gnome disguised himself as a kobold in order to make them rebel against the tall oppressive non-scaled bullies.

But I don't think that part was included in the book.

I found it anything but bland. It does require reading ahead, prepping, and actually knowing what you're doing, tho'. It's not a open-and-run module.

On the other hand, the editor should be fired for failing to do his job.

We're on our 8th session and enjoying it.

For us, the fight with Cyanwrath was awesome. It lasted only 1 round, but our champion scored first blood.

It is a very gritty, dangerous campaign for lower levels, which we really like. Out of the 5 of us, we've all gone down to 0 hp at least once!!!. My cleric, the group rogue and the group fighter have gone down 2 times each. Thank god for healing potions.

We are now 3rd level and we are exploring the Hatchery.

If you want to read our exploits (from my character's notes) here's a link to the WoTC Blog where I keep them.

Having read it but not played it yet, I have to say I love it for the most part. I love to create my own games (or loved to at least, I have been off gaming for a long time), but I have little time these days. Adding and changes a few things here and there, will satisfy my creative side while at the same time have a full campaign that I find interesting. Nice to read so many cool ideas here as well as positive gaming experience (we start in mid-februari).

And it has dragons as the major theme. :)

Chapter 6 turned into a mass combat revolt for the Lizardfolk because a PC in my group, a Dragonborn Ranger, was presented to them as "The Thunder Lizard".

A little diplomacy (and deceit) can go a looooong ways in Hoard of the Dragon Queen.

Although I had lots of great moments running Hoard of the Dragon Queen, one of my favourite sessions was when the players spent an entire session just scouting the flying castle and avoiding combat. It was great to see something other than "kick in the door and fight" play. :)

Cheers!

Yes. I think this adventure is actually trying to train a new generation to think before fighting. At first level, if you see 6 kobolds, 2 dragon claws, and 2 guard drakes.....run!!!!
