Temp HPs

The character builder is not a rules resource and not a valid source of rules (etc). The RC is the most up to date rules source and has abandoned that language. Temp HP are not cumulative and you only ever have the highest amount. It's much simpler and clear wording, while getting across the exact same mechanical intent.

Amazingly enough, when you don't use a mechanic or you get a new item, certain aspects of it may be a tad confusing, even to a veteran gamer- in this case, one whose sole 4Ed PC is just 3rd level.

Besides, even with my vast experience on this board, I did not realize it was customary or vital to list one's experience with a game before asking a question about it.
Sorry, I didnt mean to come across as disrespectful. Its was only because I read this, took the posters experience into account, and I immediately presumed that I had been doing the wrong thing from the start!

Sorry if that came across wrong.

Ah- then we're cool!

It's amazing how the lack of voice tone or body language can totally change the intended message. (Lord knows I've had my share of text-only misunderstandings for the same reason!)

What an odd thread. People confusing curses for marks and thinking temp HP's somehow stack?

This is day 1 basics I thought everyone understood and had been the status quo for years now.
The rules for temporary hit points have been revised several times. Not everyone follows errata closely (even if they're years old).

As for the mark/curse confusion: Maybe the posters' minds have been 'Essentialized'? ;)

The only possible exception I know about is battlerager fighters (weaponmasters) but I am unclear onthe updated eratta.

Er, what? Battleragers don't stack THP either, they just get a lot of them.

*And as to the later RC reference eliminating "source", are you sure? Because I copied that item info from the CB.

Despite what the CB and Compendium may say, they do not currently incorporate a lot of what is in the Rules Compendium (even when they specifically quote it).

That describes me quite well- I don't go looking for errata unless something slaps me in the face as being off somehow...and I am SEVERAL years old! ;)

Only one thing to note about temporary hit points. They never stack. Ever. Never ever. If you have a question about them stacking, the answer is no.
