Template for a troll

Thurbane

First Post
Hi all,

Does anyone know a good template to apply to a Troll that will make it immune (or resistant) to mind affecting attacks, but that will leave it's Regeneration ability intact?

The troll will be used as a guardian in a dungeon, and I don't want it to be too easily overcome with Confusion, Tasha's Hideous Laughter or Charm Monster...

Cheers - T

Divine Guardian template in Advanced Bestiary. +1 CR gets you:
+4 init, extra speed, some divination SLAs, ability damage healing, dimension door at will, fast healing 5 (plus regen = whee!), immune to mind-affecting effects, +4 Wis, +4 Cha, killed if it ever leaves the site it's guarding.

*rolls eyes at third party material*

Let's try to do this properly, shall we?

Let's see... Petitioner would work. The party would need to go to the Petioner's home plane somewhere in the Outer Planes, though. A DR 0 troll would work as well, though you'd want an explanation as to why the party is fighting the troll equivalent of Hercules.

Voidmind Creature from Monster Manual 3. CR+1. And as a bonus, he gets Spell Resistance and Acid Immunity.
That's what I would have suggested. I should also note that the Voidmind template is horribly under-CRed. It should be at least a CR +2.

Another option from the same book is the Woodling template. CR +2.

Or if you're a bastard, half golem (asssume the troll made it's will save to stay a giant and retain his con score). This will make him immune to mind affecting spells, as well as immune to non-lethal damage thanks to his construct traits. Anything other than acid and fire won't even knock him unconscious. :)

That would have been my suggestion as well, however, it requires that there are three mindflayers around somewhere.

Having just created a voidmind were polar bear crusader level 5 (CR10) I have to agree that the CR adjustment seems to be too low. The CR adjustment for the lycanthrope template is probably too low, too...
