Ten observations on Castles & Crusades compared to d20.

Wizards are quite vulnerable in C&C, and advance more slowly than most other classes. As they reach higher level (just as in OD&D), they become a tremendously powerful force (part of the reason the level advancement is slower).

This was my take on it too. As a DM, I will not be capping the spells. I like the fact that the spells continue to scale to meet the potential challenges a wizard might face. To me, this is what makes a wizard a force to be reckoned with, and is offset by the stringent XP requirements of C&C.

Is the C&C "DMG" going to have level progression tables beyond 12th? Or should I just go ahead and calculate out my own charts?

BTW, that 1 is an extra in the xp charts, right? Meaning it is a typo? It should be moved one place to the left, correct?

I believe the CKG will have the addidional progression information. I am not sure if that is going to include any extra abilities or not.

I dont think the 1's are typo's

The errata also has a level progression beyond 12th chart for you.

Off Topic - Breakdaddy, where is your avatar from? Is that a specific character, or just a general image? Either way, it rocks. :)

Ok, the C&C talk may resume.

Thanks, CrusaderX, it was a general image that binary numbers were added to. It isnt meant to be any specific character, Im just a big geek.

that is a homage to 1st edition, which had characters need things like 2001 xp to go to the next level. I suppose one could start all characters with 1 xp, to distinguish them from the 0 level characters with 0 xp. :)

progression beyond 12th is a set number of points per level, I believe. I expect it will be added at the bottom of the charts in the second printing, as it was in 1E.

The xp progression after 12th is in the errata, and it is a fixed amount. 250,000 for cleric/druid for an example. I found this out because I wanted to make sure the 1 was not a typo, and that to be 12th level, a cleric did indeed need to earn 900,001 xp's.
