TerpCon Fall 2006

Mabe we need to revive the ENworld MD/DC/VA game day under a different guise than TerpCon?
You know full well, darling husband, that such an event is already underway! (be looking for it in late winter/early spring for all those that care). Tentatively titled DangerCon or (my favorite) Wrath of Con, it will hopefully be held somewhere around Crystal City/Pentagon City for those of you that are interested. :)

Indeed, TerpCon has gotten less and less enjoyable from the standpoint of an ENW-er. The ENW crowd pushed aside (and apparently kicked out of games) - that combined with the increasingly unprofessional tactics of those running the convention (i.e., having the MC/announcer of the raffle winning prizes) has made many ENW-ers feel like the UMD Gaming Club is actually working to make us feel excluded.

I have had the opportunity to play in some wonderful games, yet they've all been run by friends here at ENW because attempting to play with the UMD Gaming Club peoples is simply not worth feeling left out/excluded/pushed aside/actually kicked out.

It makes me sad to see how the ENW-ers are treated at TerpCon. ENW is, after all, the birth-place of the UMD gameday; however, all things shift and change over time. Hopefully TerpCon can do a little shifting and changing to make the ENW crowd feel welcome again.

I'd love to help set up another gameday for ENW (and others) that had a more friendly vibe. Unfortunatly, being 2 hours from northern VA means that I can only provide support, someone else would need to do the legwork.

And, regardless of TerpCon, I'm happy to do the legwork of organizing an ENW Gameday (along with my many [-]minions[/-] friends in the area). :) ;)

I agree, to a point. However, there is no reason why they can't both coexist.

I think that we went from having an ENworld MD/DC/VA game day to Terpcon because the facilities were great and honestly we could not beat the price. Don't get me wrong I think most of the organizers from UMD are great people and I've had many great Eberron games with Andrew Beard and Carla did a great job running an LG game last time.

I just think that for ENWorld Gameday to be a success we really need to organize the games here. The Warhorn site is good for registration but it does not invite much discussion of games and the comraderie we've come to expect of ENWorld.

If we decided to do our own thing separate from Terpcon I think that both "organizations" would suffer and not have as good an event.

Yes I do know that, and that's why I provided that handy set-up!

Which I don't think means that you/we are unwilling to work with the UMD crowd - they deserve to be commended for putting in the legwork for the past couple of game days, and we certainly wouldn't want to exclude them from the opportunity to attend a resurrected ENworld game day (as that seems to be among the chief complaints among our side). As D'karr notes, we don't want to split the constituency; we just want to make it a more inclusive event in the future, right?

Dammit woman! I am not a minion!

I would love to attend said ENW game day. I have tried for two years to do so, but real life kicks my a$$ sometimes.

I am not a huge poster, notice post count, but I read all the posts and I would love to meet some of you!

And you would always be welcome at any ENWorld Gameday, no matter the post count.

Me too . . . except for the 'two years' part. I've only been trying for one. :D

That being said, Pentagon City/Crystal City would be much more convenient for me. Part of the reason why I couldn't make it to the last UMD was because of the time/transportation factor.

That being said, I would totally be willing to help organize something. Whatever ya'll need, I could probably help.

I was Old One's bit...er, minion, for the inaugural gameday, so let me know what I can do to help.

Liz, I could always give you a lift but I'm afraid you'd choose to fly back... LOL

I've not been to TerpCon before and was actually looking forward to it until I read some of the posts here. I might still go up there if I can convince my regular group to go... if nothing else we can use it as an excuse to run our own game.

The ENWorlders need to present a unified front. Maybe we could meet up somewhere prior to going to the Con.

I am definitely up for a ENWorld DC/VA/MD gameday. I'd just need to know when and where. Maybe talk to the Games Parlor folks to get some kind of "sponsorship" (read: Door Prizes). :)
One of my players used to work at the Woodbridge branch and she is still on really good terms with the owners. I'll ask her about it at my next game.

The first couple of Terpcons rocked, I'll agree. But there came a point when most of the original planners (and leaders of the Terrapin Gaming Club) left, and new blood came in. The fomer brass made a concentrated effort to make everyone feel welcome, and the new kind of just assumed that people would keep coming.

The first 3 gamedays had both ENWorlders AND TGC members in on the higher planning process, and now instead of a collaborative effort, it's a UMD event that others can attend.
