Testament Adventures?

Tinner

First Post
I'm just starting a Testament campaign for some of the kids in my church youth group, as a discussion aid. And I have to say, this game is excellent!
The one problem I'm having though is finding things to keep the PC's busy with.
These are younger players who lack experience, and I don't want them to get derailed or bored.
Likewise, I don't want to re-write Biblical histor and suddenly have them turn out to be Kings of Israel, or High Priests. I want them to do things Bible heroes might have done, rather than just run around and fight Philistines.
Anyone have any adventures for an Israelite based Testament game?
I have the one free adventure GR has on their site, and I've tried taking some of the WotC adventures and swapping "goblin" for "Philistine" but if anyone else has better ideas, I'd really appreciae it.

I had the same problem when I tryed to run Testament, couldn't think up ideas for adventures. My suggestion is to adapt Modern or wild west adventure ideas.

All I can say is "Its coming" and "no one has been waiting as long as I have." I have something about to be released from Highmoon Media that, at last notice, was just awaiting some final thing from Green Ronin. I believe they have others coming out as well. Mine is a 1st level adventure set during the period of the Judges.

As Stormborn pointed out, we do indeed have two adventures for Testament coming out in the next few months. The first one is ready for layout and awaiting some graphics from Green Ronin, while the second is in final editing with none other than Testament editor Spike Y Jones. We are more likely than not (read: pretty much assured) to offer more Testament support after these adventures, since the setting is my personal favorite.

Keep an eye out here and at our website www.highmoonmedia.com for news concerning the Testament adventures, as well as other offerings in our Terra Mythica line. :)

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them." So Moses sent them from the Wilderness of Paran according to the command of the Lord, all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.

An option would be to use the time of Joshua as background material and then have the PCs take on the roles of the spies who enter into Canan
Anyway in this way you can have the PCs wander overland relying on stealth and survival skills to spy on Canaan, they can have random encounters with dire lions and similar threats, infiltrate the cities and then of course go up against the Canaanite forces.

The Adventures
1. So they went up and spied out the land from the Wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, near the entrance of Hamath. (Wilderness Reconissance)
2. And they went up through the South and came to Hebron; Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) (Urban Infiltration/Spying)
3. Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole. They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs. The place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down there.
4. And they returned from spying out the land after forty days.

The climax of the 'campaign' could be the Fall of Jericho, with the PCs amongst the forces marching around the walls (maybe even the trumpet blowers)

The problem with that is if I make the PC's those spies, then they have to be the "unfaithful" spies who reported back that they could never defeat the Canaanites. Again, great idea, but I don't want to "rewrite history" in that way.
Sorry if I sound picky, but I have a Bachelor's degree in Bible, and that kind of thing is a pet peeve of mine. :D

Thanks to all of you for the advice!
I decided to start with them being part of the Israelite army, and began right after the sacking of Jericho.
I ran them through a HEAVILY modified version of "Mad God's Key" from Dungeon #114, and that worked pretty well. I just switched from cultists & undead in the cairn to Philistine raiders holed up in the tombs.

Hal & Stormborn - Good to hear that Testament is getting some support! Consider me a guaranteed sale! I'm especially interested in seing Stormborn's adventure after participating in Iron DM with him!

well that sounds like a great teaching point to me.
Make it look like the Canaanite forces are overwhelming - you've got a few wandering nomads in the desert vs well fortified cities and a wealthy urban population with a good standing army. The spies do come back and say that the cities are too strong to attack and the armies really well equiped

you then reply with how god will give the victory despite the overwhelming odds etc etc etc

Anyway your game sounds fun. I don't know the Mad gods key so can't comment further
