D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

To see just how well the Gold Dragon preforms against a basic level 20 party I am going to do a test run.

I will do it in the morning, but I have Initiative rolled up. Gold Dragon only rolled a 2 with that + 16 of his so he's going in the middle. Luca is a Thief Rogue, Loonas a Champion Fighter, Elidira a Evoker Wizard, and Belamur a Light Cleric, no optimization has been done mostly just picked options that I thought made sense.

I honestly wonder how this will go, the party should win with a bit of danger to the encounter. Wondering what you guys will predict.

The party ignores the hook and instead of fighting the dragon heads back to town makes an enemy of a shop keeper who won't give them a discount and spends the whole session devising an elaborate plot to ruin that shop keepers life.

I assume this is just a combat encounter correct?

Also, is this the dragon's Lair and does it have room to fly?

Honestly, it depends on the spells you have selected for the Wizard. With the right spells Elidira could probably defeat it solo.

Luca the Rogue, hides and sneaks up to another pillar to toss a dagger with advantage at the Dragon. He uses Supreme Sneak to retain his Invisible Condition at the cost of his sneak attack dealing 1d6 less damage.

The Dragon attempts to Banish Loonas as a LA, who fails the save, and uses Indomitable to try and pass it. However even with the +20 bonus he fails and is banished.

At the Start of the Dragon's turn with Loonas's turn skipped, Loonas is dropped in the lake outside the lair.

Man these guy's luck sucks, even the rogue failed though he takes half damage thanks to Evasion. The Dragon follows this my flying 30 feet into the air.

The wizard casts Sunburst to try and deal some damage then runs to get to a safer location. The Dragon then uses a Legendary action to pounce on Luca who it detected thanks to it's blindsight, even disadvantage from the Sunburst does not allow it to miss.

Baramur uses heal on the Wizard to keep her up. While the Dragon pounces on Luca again to maneuver around and get some extra damage (the custom rolls don't have the plus 10 so that is being added) to end the first round.

Yes and I am making the rooms have 60 foot ceilings.
