Tests and Trials (Manzanita Judging)

Rae ArdGaoth said:
Luthiel's quick scan of the clearing reveals little: there are dozens of trails, some more obvious than others, but none of the well-traveled, obvious-way-to-go sort. If he is extremely picky and discriminatory, Luthiel can pick out four fairly decent paths, roughly one at each of the cardinal directions, the one the group has already traveled being the south-ish one.
OOC: Then, if I am not misaken, the westish path would be in the direction of the weasel clearing?

OOC: Sort of, yes. Here's a very quick, not to scale, completely inaccurate map that may give you a better idea.

Luthiel Faradar Elven Rogue1

"I suggest we scout only a short way along these three paths, to get an idea of what might be out there for tomorrow. Then we can return to camp and catch some sleep." Luthiel heads to the west-heading path and begins sneaking his way along it, using the shadows and taking his time. He intends to go no more than 200 yards along that path before returning to the clearing and doing the same on the other paths.

Devlin Magruder, human rogue 3

Once back at the main campsite, Devlin retreats to his tent for a few minutes to get things settled, as well as to count the gold he took off the goblinoids earlier during his first encounter with them.

Malen, Dwarf Wiz1

OOC: I assume that the map's eastern arm is the goblin clearing?

Malen starts a tiny way down the path, looking to keep the elven scout covered but sure to leave a large buffer.

OOC: Malen won't go more than 20 or so feet down the trail, and will keep Luthiel covered with a loaded crossbow as long as he can see him.

Luthiel Faradar Elven Rogue1

Luthiel, seeing that Malen does not intend to venture far tonight, decides to restrain his curiousity a little and only scout 100 yards onto each of the three paths.

The west path winds a fair amount and Malen quickly loses sight of Luthiel. As the elf travels along, he can almost feel eyes boring into his back. Once or twice he can almost hear a growl or a yip, but not quite. After what he approximates to be 100 yards, he turns around to head back.

There, in his path, is a growling, hair-bristling, foaming-at-the-mouth, wolf.

OOC: Uh, well, this would certainly seem to be the right time for some initiative, which equals 23. Also, for informational purposes, how far away is the wolf? And how hard would the trees around here be to climb?
Edit: and what is Garrit doing? I think I want him to be close by for the aftermath of this, so it's important :D

Initiative Order:
Luthiel (23)
Wolf (??)

The wolf is about 20' away from Luthiel, right in the middle of the path he just traveled, not moving, just growling menacingly. There are many trees in the nearby vicinity that look easily climbable.

Malen does not hear the wolf growling, nor does anyone else.

Luthiel bolts for the nearest easily climbable tree (hopefully, this does not mean towards the wolf). He attempts to get high enough off the ground that the wolf cannot reach him, which he estimates to be 15-20 feet (if I'm within 20 feet of the tree to start with, I oughta be able to make it 20 feet off the ground by the end of my turn, right?). The climb check is a 9, so I'm hoping these are some really easy trees to climb :D
