Thanks ENWorld

I just signed up as a community supporter. I did so b/c this is the single best resource I have found to learn and talk about the hobby I have recently come to love.

I wanted to write this short thread just to thank the posters for being so helpful to the newer folks in this hobby. After a 25 year hiatus I started playing and DM'ing D&D for dozens of kids I teach in ESL classes in Korea. There is no local gaming culture here and what I've had to learn, which was a lot, I've been able to learn through this board. This board has constructively and non-condescendingly put up with a lot of "newbie" questions from me. My subscription is in support of this site - but this thread is in thanks to the forum members who make this place awesome.

To make this a proper thread, I'll add this question: who is the one person that you would like to thank for their help/support/introduction/advice related to rpg's - who made rpg's possible/fun/accessible for you?

For the record, I'm not so new that I don't the the correct name is EnWorld... misspelling a thread title kind of sucks, especially when you're an English teacher.

Ah rats! I jumped in this thread right away just so I can tease you about the title. You stole my thunder. Now I have to think of something that will actually contribute to your thread. Hmm....

I'd have to say, Jack Chick. His satire D&D comics are great. I especially like the one where he kills off Blackleaf. I never saw it coming. I always thought it would be hilarious to hang myself in my bedroom if a DM killed my PC. I mean, think about what kind of message that would send to the DM? I guarantee he'd never kill off any other PCs of mine after that.

The teachers at school who didn't see it as a bad thing and allowed us to play during breaks. Especially our English teacher.

It is ENWorld, the EN is for Eric Noah who started the site back when rumors of 3.0 were going out. Morrus took over the site, the name stuck and history was made. ;)

Long time ago I'd a key exam to take. Barely awake in class all year, zero studying done and woken real early by the postman on exam day. A parcel, a . . . 1e Player's Handbook . . . wtf? . . . read the whole thing before the exam. By the time I got in there I was on fire, totally aced the exam and remain indebted to Gary to this day :)

I think I gotta give my thanks to Gary. Man I spent hour upon hour reading the 1ePHB and DMG. Did wonders for both my imagination and vocabulary. He was totally one of my childhood heroes and getting the chance to game with him was beyond awesome.

Since I'm a moderator and can abuse my powers whenever I want, I'll remorselessly thanks ANOTHER person: My wife. She is an amazingly great player (and a better GM than she gives herself credit for too!). But she's also the person who makes most of my gaming possible in one way or another. She happily stays home with our daughter when I go off to game every Monday night. She is a brilliant sounding board/originator of RBDM quality ideas for the games that I run. And she is astoundingly gracious about having a horde of gamers descend upon our house at each of the NC Game Days that we've had so many of. This is to say nothing of her awesome butt.
