Thanks to EN Publishing for EN Critters: Ruins of the Pale Jungle

Could somebody who's recently bought this confirm that it's been done, please? Don't want to think about buying something with that many errors, but the book has general appeal to me.

Yep - see my post above. John's copy was an advance copy. And if anyone does have the broken version, we'll happily replace it.

I briefly checked my copy and found that my version does contain at least some of the stat block errors John Cooper mentioned (such as the # of hitpoints of the Hazed Horror or the Root Roper), as well as the references to Yuan-ti. However, I probably have an early copy as well.

I do think that the reveiws did miss out on the practical utility of the product (if you're running an adventure in the Jungle terrain). It's extremely focused and allowed me to quickly select some interested monsters for the particular terrain. As I said above, I have a large number of monster books, but I've begun to find that having so many of them gets a bit overwhelming, and I don't have the time or energy to read 300-page mosnter tomes front to back and familiarize myself with monsters within. Nevertheless, I do have a desire when running adventures to at least sometimes go outside the core for monsters. This book fillled that need very nicely.

Some better quality illustrations would have been nice for some of the monsters.

I'm not sure which version you have, John. Actually, there's a THIRD revision being done, which will go out free to everyone who has bought it. Also, it will contain colour illos, counters, knowledge charts, etc., to bring it more in line with the quality of the most recent release in the series.

Will there be a desert-themed one? That'd go great with Sandstorm.

Most likely. I'm not sure what's next in the series. I'll ask the line manager to drop in with more info.

Very cool. I'm just looking at my copy of EN Critters III. I think the inclusion of counters is a great idea. And the illustrations and graphic layout is a very big improvement. I really like this series.

You got an advance copy, John. It has been revised since.
For future reference, then, Morrus, what exactly is an "advance copy?" Is it a draft copy (and thus still a work in progress) or is it an identical copy of the same PDF that will shortly be put up for sale? Obviously, I had assumed the latter, and reviewed it accordingly. (Apparently Crothian did the same.)

I ask, because I just received a PDF of E.N. Critters 3, and would like to know whether you want me to review it as-is (assuming it's a finished copy), or hold off until it's finished and "ready for review" (in which case I would expect a follow-up copy to be sent to me once it had been proofread and edited).

Also, oddly enough, I never received a review copy of E.N. Critters 2, although I was sent the first and third in the series.

Updates and Info

Good evening all,

Thanks again for the support and feedback. I've posted a lengthy response to John's review at http://www.enworld.org/reviews.php?do=review&reviewid=2212077 hopefully clearing some of this up.

As I mentioned in the review response, some of the errors John points out were due to his having an advance copy. I take some responsibility for that as it was my first d20 PDF and I sent Morrus a draft for him to check over and verify before I sent a fairly revised version to post.

Many of the stat errors John mentions still exist. I have corrected them and will be posting the corrected version on Monday for anyone waiting to purchase it. At least half a dozen of the illustrations have also been converted to color.

I also see that Morrus has offered to replace any broken copies. I'd like to extend that offer as well. If you purchased a copy prior to this coming Monday 5-16-05, please email me at beardeddragonpublications@gmail.com and I'll make sure to keep you updated! I'll also post again on this thread once the corrected version is up.

In terms of #2 Beyond the Campfire, and #3 Tulenjord: Land of the Fallen One, those are the final copies.
John Cooper: If you'd like a copy of #2 to review, and Morrus hasn't already sent one, let me know.

Thanks for the support John Selmak, it's good to know we have at least 1 fan :)

Other PDFs of this series in the works include:
1) one focused on critters in and around a vast, slow moving river
2) one focused on critters in a desert-like wasteland
3) Denizens of the Mushroom Forest
4) A demonic compendium - probably have to have a gore- warning on this one though considering some of the advance artwork I've seen for it.

Thanks again!
Rob Lajoie
