Thanksgiving Gaming Thanks 2010

This Thanksgiving, in the realm of Gaming-Related-Thanks, I'm thankful for the following:

1. My kids continued affection & growing appreciation for role-playing. Thank you Paizo & thank you PFRPG!

2. Recruiting the next generation. Beyond my own kids, yesterday I introduced a couple of my oldest kid's friend to Pathfinder as well. Based on initial reactions, looks like I may have yet another Pathfinder campaign underway.

3. Gaming nostalgia. Since the addition of extra players wasn't planned, I was scrambling a bit to come up with an intro adventure. I presented the group with 3 oldie-but-goodies I thought I could adapt to PF on the fly. The winning selection: Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh - my favorite introductory module from the AD&D days.

4. The OGL. Whether it's my 3PP library, the Conan RPG, the Pathfinder RPG, or the latest group of awesome 3PP support for the PFRPG, the OGL continues to be the greatest thing to ever hit my table, my campaigns, & my favorite hobby.

5. A Wife that Supports My Hobby. After being knocked over by Paizo's Black Friday sales, my wife gladly told me to order what I wanted & it'd be my Christmas present from the kids.

1 & 2: That's awesome. :)

3: It's pretty easy (in general) and lots of fun. I've converted a number of old adventures to 3e/PF, too. One of them, just to see how easy it would be.

4: Agreed!

5: Aww. :D Again, awesome.

We don't do Thanksgiving here, but even so (on a RPG note)...

I'm thankful for my gaming friends, for being riotous fun - sober or otherwise - and plenty else, and for collaborating in what is by far the most enjoyable hobby I've ever been a part of. My wonderful gamer GF, for keeping me in line and for mutual inspiration. All those who give freely of their time and efforts, so that others can enjoy the gaming benefits, be it on forums, in free PDFs, or whatever else. And, last but not least, those who slave away at creating, editing, formatting, publishing (etc.) the RPG materials without which most of us would be very much the poorer. Well... in one sense. :p
