That's it; I am done buying minis'!

Hi guys, just needed to vent a bit before going out to get drunk with my gaming group.

I just bought for $550 worth of mini's from the Against the Giants (only cases, no single packs) and all I got was one lousy T-shirt!

Err I mean, one lousy poorly painted dragonborn miniature. On the way home, I decided that it would be the last time that I spent my hard earned money on miniatures. My group will just have to do with the many hundreds that I have.

Cheers, and a good weekend to you all.

For that kind of money you could have gotten a good selection of metal (or unpainted plastic) minis that were not random and could be given really great paint jobs. Random minis= suck. I have never bought random minis and never will.

I know what you mean. I stopped buying very many miniatures when the price for just one booster pack went up to $14.99 and tax...At one time, buying a case or two was not that expensive a proposition. Now, it gets expensive fast, even buying by the case.

I have a pretty hefty collection already, so I just have to fight the occasional urge to fall back into "collector" mode and just be happy with what I've got.

Just curious, how many cases did you get? $550 looks like retail for 4 cases in the US. That means 24 boosters. There are 6 huge rares, with a '1 per 3 boosters' frequency. So, in 4 cases, one can expect 8 huge rares. The odds of getting one of each plus two duplicates are small, however.

There are 18 S/M/L rares, 1 per booster. So, assuming perfect distribution, you'd get one of each, plus 6 duplicates.

There are 2 dragonborn rares. Again, assuming 4 cases with perfect distribution, one can expect one of each, with a high probability of one duplicate.

The huge sets always screw up the purchasing plan. I normally buy three cases of each set, but they have 12 boosters each. That's 36 boosters, giving me 1.5 of each rare. I normally miss one or two, but then have 3 of several that I can trade/sell to get the ones I missed. For this huge set, I'm buying 4 cases (but I also don't pay retail for my minis) to try to achieve the distribution I mentioned above. I'm certain I'll have to buy a few singles off ebay.

I will say I think it was a HUGE ERROR to make both dragonborn minis in this set rare. Not wise to release a new edition of the game with a new race that many want to play and not have easy access to the minis (and no third party substitutes.) Of course, someone in marketing may have thought "Everyone wants a dragonborn. Let's make the minis rare... that'll drive sales of the boosters!" I hope that wasn't the case. I think an uncommon Dragonborn would drive sales as people know that they'd get 2-3 per case. Oh well, there's always the next set...

Go take a look at the whole Reptus miniatures from the Reaper WARLORD line. There are quite a bit of third party alternatives. Not prepainted, yet. But Reaper is making in-roads in that respect.

I have 4 cases of AtG minis on their way to me right now (will get here Monday). I payed like $335 and change, which is a great deal (gameoutfitter.com).

If I don't get at least ONE dragonborn I'm gonna be PISSED!

I understand your pain, but I have this slight love of gambling and suboptimal choices so the excitement of cracking open a random booster is too much to resist. I have come to know the worth in hunting for single minis though and that's how I've bulked up my collection as of late.
