Thaumaturgist's Planar Cohort special ability

I am trying to figure out if I am misunderstanding the Planar Cohort special ability. As a 7th level cleric\5th level thaumaturgist I could call a Ghaele eladrin (10HD - 0 level adjustment) but would have to gain another level to be a 13th level character to call a Bralani eladrin (6HD - 5 level adjustment)? That seems off to me? Am I missing something? What are the good cohorts to call around the 12th - 15th character level?

A Ghaele doesn't have a level adjustment of 0, it has a level adjustment of -.

The two are very different.

Savage Species pegs the Ghaele from the 3E MM at ECL 20, which suggests an LA of +10.

The 3.5MM doesn't give an LA at all, which usually means either that its ECL is higher than 20, or that it's unsuitable for use as a PC race.

Good Planar Cohorts

So what are some good planar cohorts for 12th to 15th level characters? I don't have all the add-on books.
