So is there a record for longest battle?
I'm curious too, but with the specific caveat of a battle without any pauses for talking, negotiation, etc. As Creamsteak mentioned, a minute of talking is ten rounds, so including that in the calculation makes things awkward. By that count I've had some very long fights, where a couple of blows were exchanged, then both parties stepped back and started talking (but with weapons ready) for a few minutes, and then ended up in combat again. But I'd never consider that a 50+ round battle.

I dunno about that. In our 50+ rounder I referenced above there was plenty of talking. Blustering, trash talking, arguing amongst players and npc's, taunting, shouting commands, questioning etc. But the whole thing rolled along at a quite heady pace. And the blows kept apace as well.

Without the dialogue, it would have been a fairly boring fight.

'Cept for the Ogre Champion and dino-croc.

And the T-Rex.

Oh, and the two hags.

No mention of the gnolls behind the arrow slits? Them was some darned expensive stoneworking decision for all the good they did...

We had one a few months back that lasted 50 something rounds, mostly the wizard (me) and the rogue against an Advance Half Fiend Treant, while the cleric, fighter, monk, and druid lounged around, being paralized by a blasphemy. I think the fighter was the first to come around, ...on round 40. I managed to get him to chase me by killing his children (immature treants) for a while, then he chased the rogue for a while when she began peppering it with holy water (we used something like 30 viles during the combat)

Don't know how we managed to all survive that one. Except for my riding dog. A CR 12 vs a CR 1 isn't pretty. I miss you Jake!!!!!

Damn, that's impressive. My old group could take as long as 6 hours for a single combat round because our main DM was absentminded and liked to put on lots of movies while we 'gamed'. >_<

Oh, on another note, we used the CD that came with the Sharn: City of Towers book as background music. Except for the one song where someone is singing, I think it kept everything moving a bit more smoothly than usual. A minor bit of sound to keep everyone's minds one degree less distracted wasn't as bad as I had originally believed. The song where there's a woman singing though is rather annoying.

Whuh? Those were actual GNOLLS shooting real ARROWS at us? For all the good it did, they may as well have been Keebler™ elves tossing Town House™ crackers at us. Jeepers, that must have frustrated the heck out of you.

;)
