I also figure that WotC, in a couple years, will go ahead and release 4.5e or 5e--and I really don't want to fall for that again. So I've only bought 2 books beyond the core: Adventurers Vault (which was a disappointment) and Open Grave (which was okay). Given the mediocre quality of these book, I will not be buying anymore. I think the biggest competitor to 4e is 3.5e.  Whether or not 3.5e is undergoing a renaissance elsewhere, I cannot say for certain.</blockquote>
