The 30 book and only 30 book challlenge

30 D&D books? I'll have to buy some more then, you could have made this harder my having a difficult restriction like 10 or something.

Only 30? :D

I know I have a ton of books, but that's not much of a "short list". I imagine lots of folks only have 30 (or less) d20 books.

I don't have 30 books in my entire D&D library, and that's after 12 years of playing and DMing.

1) Player's Handbook
2) DMG
3) Monster Manual
4) Book of the Righteous
5) Manual of the Planes
6) Compiled Book of Eldritch Might
7) Legions of Hell
8) Psionics Handbook
9) If Thoughts Could Kill
10) Temple of Elemental Evil -- still my favorite module after all these years.

And that's just about all I'd need, I think.

6) Compiled Book of Eldritch Might
7) Legions of Hell

If you are going to cite an as yet unpublished compilation in case (6), why wouldn't you do so in case (7) and pick up the Book of Fiends?

Because technically, I think I'm cheating a little bit by picking a book that's a essentially just a compilation of 3 books that are already out, and thus saving space.

I know there's some new stuff in the compilation, but I really just care for the original material for the thread's purposes. ;)

And right now, while I'm sure Book of Fiends will be good, I really like Legions of Hell, and would just go with that.

EDIT: If I had to stick to solely published material, I'd probably drop the psionics books and use the three slots for the 3 individual Books of Eldritch Might.

For one thing, 30 books is way too many. I could play for years and years and years with only 30 books. For another, the hypothetical compilations you're citing is cheating! :) here's my list -- probably less than 30 books, but the books I'd consider essential to keep me going indefinately:
  1. PHB 3e
  2. DMG 3e
  3. MM 3.5
  4. Midnight
  5. d20 Call of Cthulhu
  6. Mutants and Masterminds
  7. d20 Star Wars Revised
  8. Monsternomicon
  9. Book of Fiends (a legitimate compilation -- is this out yet? If not, it's overdue.)
  10. Freeport
  11. Book of the Righteous
  12. Oriental Adventures
  13. Manual of the Planes
  14. Iron Kingdoms Setting Book I (due out this spring?)
  15. Iron Kingdoms Setting Book II (due out this summer?)
  16. d20 Modern
  17. I dunno, maybe another coupla monster books, like some of the Creature Collections.

Hmmm....I didn't know Book of Fiends was a compilation. I'll need to check out the site a little closer.

And actually, Complete Book of Eldritch Might is a legit compilation, and......well, whatdya know....it came out this week! :p

hey, if we can do compilations, i'm changing my list.

1. OD&D(1974) boxed set.

i don't need the other 29 entries now.
