The Art of Jeff Dee

Jeff Dee, Erol Otus, Bill Willingham.

These are to name just but a few of some of the artists who sparked my imagination with their art back in the 80’s. I took a keen interest in Jeff Dee’s art especially as the game we played the most next to AD&D was Villains and Vigilantes. In fact his picture of the Paladin from TSR “The Rogues Gallery” was photocopied and subsequently traced and used for my first AD&D character.

So I was a little excited to find that Jeff Dee is re-creating his art from his old TSR days. You can find out more about this project here and can see the finished drawings here.

Enjoy!

I went to look at the pictures first of course. At first I thought, "well, that's cool, but I've got them in my Deities and Demigods already" but then I read that TSR/WotC threw out the originals. Sucks, but I would like to see cool new stuff inspired by the originals.

Jeff Dee has been one of my favorite artists since I was a kid! I jumped on the Kickstarter bandwagon, and can't wait for my autographed print.

Thanks so much for the heads up!

Saw his project last week. I'm a huge fan and he's in my top 5 D&D artists of all time along with Willingham, Roslof, Tramp & Sutherland. I love the "fantasy superheroes" aesthetic he (and Willingham) brought to the game. Not to mention he's the only D&D artist (of any era) to ever portray halflings in a different way (from Tolkien's ideal) that I actually like.

I recently found a copy of Top Secret and LoG for Gamma World, and have really been enjoying Dee's work there as well- I had not owned either product since 1985 or so.
