The Banewarrens: Allies and Enemies

"Tell me, what brings you to Ptolus. Was your parting from Tyrillia Everheart an unfortunate one?"

Bilbo responds, "Many rooms on the second floor, but most of them are locked. No sign of guards or residents."

"Oh no Mistress. Our parting was filled with love and tears. Unfortunatly As you may have heard The lady was wed recently and her new husband is not fond of how 'close' The lady and I had become. He nearly killed Bono as a way of attacking me. That is why he does not speak, his is to frightened to."

*Well just keep looking. don't tell me something as small as a gem can't crawl under a door or two.*

'Bono' reminds himself to kick 'Folo' in his softskinned bottom when they get out of this, stable hand indeed...

Bono nods at Folo's comments, looking suitably alarmed when Folo mentions the irate husband.

Krug, Malikar, and Nicalon head over the wall.

Morden follows the others over the wall. On the other side, he pokes Malikar and whispers to him, "Like a thief in the night...how do you like it so far?" Morden is thoroughly unable to disguise the huge smirk on his face.

Quite frankly, I hate it. Especially not being able to see. Or that knowing I'm breaking the law. Or that I'll never be able to speak of this to anyone. Malikar sighs. He then climbs through the now open window, appreciating, and suspecting, Nicalon's talents.

Dyrnas catches up with the others as Morden follows Malikar through the window. The Vladaam library seems very well stocked. The shelves are filled with valuable books, those on history and magic seeming especially numerous.

Nicalon whispers, "There's a sitting room on the other side of this door. I doubt anyone would use it at this time of night, but stay away from the door. The guards might see movement through the cracks."

He walks over to the bookshelf and begins pulling at books. After a few failed attempts, he looks sheepishly at the others. "The door is here, but I don't know how to open it from this side. I was in rather bad shape when I escaped. Could someone else give me a hand?"

-------------------------------

Lady Vladaam has a hungry look in her eyes as Folo relates his story. "You will have to tell me more about your 'close' relationship with these elven nobles. But later, I have pressing business this evening. Pomia, please introduce them to the rest of the servants and put them to work."

Bilbo starts describing the furnishings in the upstairs rooms, "Sandalwood dresser. Silk sheets. Bear rug on the floor. Large mirror. Various humanoid skulls. Candles. Books. Oak table. High-backed chairs. House plants. Curtained bed. Whips. Chains. Camelhair rug. Various weapons. Stuffed owlbear...."

Malikar shrugs again, sighs resignedly, and begins pulling books off the shelf at random, hoping to find a secret door. I wonder how Falon and Verakka are doing now? Wait. Did we tell Nicalon about those two, Morden?

Finally Nicalon finds the correct book. The bookcase swings away from the wall, revealing a narrow ladder beneath. The ladder descends ten feet to a stone staircase which winds down below the house.

At the bottom of the stairs is a 70-foot long, 20-foot wide hall. Two doors are apparent on the other side of the room.

Nicalon whispers, "The door across from us leads to the prison. The other one must lead to the vault."

Wait. You say you were imprisoned by these fiends at House Vladaam; perhaps they have other prisoners that need to be liberated. I shall go investigate that possibility while others find the key in the vault. Remember, we're not thieves. Only take the key, nothing else.

Malikar sincerely hoped Krug would listen to him, but he doubted there would be a copper trinket left inside by the time the young knight returned from freeing the prisoners. He then approaches the prison door as quietly as possible, wondering if anyone was inside, or if anything guarded the prisoners.
