The Beast - C.A. Smith

Those are my thoughts anyway.

Yep, all very good stuff in your analysis.

I agree with you about the accuracy boost & damage output. I'm going to give it another whirl and I'll post. I'm still thinking about the possession power as well as the "lurking" potential. Have to come up with a compelling use, maybe when bloodied. Have to think longer about it.

Thanks for you help with this.

Its no trouble but you're welcome. Glad to help. From the source material and your obvious mastery of the system, my guess is that you guys are going to have a pretty good time with that portion of your game.

Concerning the possession power, you can probably go one of two ways:

1) Just give the BBEG the classic Ghostly Possession ability (standard, recharge

)
x.gif
Charm; Attack vs Will; the BBEG enters the target’s space and is removed from play, and the target is dominated (save ends). The BBEG can use this power against only one creature at a time. When the target is no longer dominated, or when the BBEG chooses to end its possession (a free action), the BBEG reappears in a square adjacent to the target.

2) You could use that same sort of mechanic in a phased combat (likely the second phase - 74 % down to bloodied). The BBEG would only have access to that power during that phase. He would dominate targets (potentially swapping between good guys during the phase) and be removed from play for the phase's duration. The only way to get out of the phase would be to do enough aggregate damage - probably 100 in total - to the creature (and simultaneously to the possessed ally) to get him down to bloodied. At that point, you would have the final incarnation of the creature to deal with. As such, you'd have 3 different BBEGs that you'd need to put together, 2 with 1/4 HPs apiece and then the Bloodied version with 1/2. Each would have one or two different powers. That could make for an interesting go of the possession power. As you of course know, for that sort of stuff to work you would need to either reference the metagame overtly to your players or properly convey the effectiveness of attacking the possessed ally (the creature howls when damaged, etc) through narrative.
