Another vote for I6 here. Its always been a favorite of mine.

I also liked the Waterdeep and the North cover but its not really a module.

Yeah, it's a sourcebook, so it doesn't really count for this. Here's the cover for Ravenloft: Castles Forlorn boxed set adventure instead:

Gotta love that Undead Loch Ness Monster. B)

From the first published modules of the 70s, to the most recently published adventures of the 2000s, what adventure module has the best cover art?

If you just want to identify the art you think looks coolest, fine, name it.

JeffB, you seem to be talking just about the artists. Of the modules you mentioned (by code), why is the cover art best for an adventure module?

Sorry, I was just answering to what I quoted from your original post (the artists, as well as particular covers that I think are "the best")

I will say that I like 'action" scenes from the adventure-something that conveys the mood as well as the physical location involved. However an action scene alone is not enough. I like interesting looking outfits/costumes, as well as interesting use of color (though not todays digitally colored art) and a sense of "movement" in the piece. Most of the artists I mention tend to do that- Dee & Willingham with the interesting characters, and movement- Otus the master of interesting characters and use of color.

One of my earliest and fondest memories of a module has to be X1 Isle of Dread. I love that module and the cover (blue one with the natives fighting a T Rex while the adventurers land their skiff) always fascinated me. I really can't tell you why beyond it invoking thoughts of King Kong and Skull Island in my head (I loved the 1933 King Kong movie and still consider it the definitive version of the story). SO while I probably have used B2 Keep on the Borderlands far more often in my campaigns the Isle of Dread will always have a spot in my games not the least for its cover art.
