The best Sorcerer ever...

First Post
Ok, An experienced DM will have a small campaign of 4-5 sessions, and I have to make a new character.
I have to mount it with the WotC books only (but I can buy items from other books, that´s the only thing I can do with other books)
I want to make a sorcerer, It will be lvl 20, 750000 GPs to spend, any prestige, any template from the WotC material.

So this is a 'contest' of who can make the best sorcerer. (the best is not necessarily the most powerful, but the most fun to play: Role playing stuff, etc) and powerful enough to stay alive in a lvl 20 campaign :D

The Eldrtich MAster from one of the Dragons looks like it'd be fun to play. You lose out on high level spells, but you have a lot more versatility on the lower level ones.

An elementalist. Pick your element.

Sorcerer/Elemental Savant. Various elemental spells with Energy Substitution provides a way to drop your element on enemies in many forms and shapes. Plus you still have some versatility with your non-opposed elements. Fill out the rest of your slots with a few summon spells (focusing on elementals and such) and utility spells.

Beyond that, top off the last few levels with whatever. More Sorcerer. A little Archmage. Something else, if you happen upon it.

Then tailor his equipment, magic items, personality, dialect, appearance, etc. to the element. Since it's a short game, a theme like this might be fun (in a longer campaign, it might become a one-trick pony).

Add an improved familiar of the appropriate type (you might have to confer with the DM to get just the right critter - Shocker Lizard works as a good base for comeing up with equally-powered critters of other elements).

And don't automatically go Pyromancer. Think Electromancer with an overblown personality, easy to rage, and quick to dissipate. Or an Terra-mancer whose wit just drips with sarcasm, who speaks slowly and searingly. And so on.

The only problem with the Elemental Savant is the fact that Knowledge: Planes is cross-class for a sorcerer. And the feat that would make it a class skill is from the Forgotten Realms so I don't think that counts.

Remember -- whatever else you do with your character... Have fun! Sorcerers are great, especially when there is a wizard around to torment about their need to memorize spells and prepare ahead of time. Heh.

Oh, and if your DM does allow FR stuff, take the Archmage PrC. The spell list above qualifies. I'd recommend the Mastery of Shaping and Mastery of Elements in addition to the normal Spell Power +X upgrades.

I would recommend Monte Cook's Alt. Sorcerer in BoEM II. It gives a d6 for hps, a few more skills(and better list I think), no material components needed (though there is some experience costs), and an alternate spell list.

Prestige classes offer so much to sorcerer's that I can not really imagine not taking one.

Archmage is nice. and with only five levels or so, it is possible to max out a different prestige class first.

Sor 5/Candle Caster 10/Archmage 5 or somesuch.

g!

You can do an elemental savant sorceror--you just need to use another prestige class as a sorceror. Since you already mentioned that you want "the best sorceror ever" I'm guessing you'll have no compunctions about using more than slightly broken prestige class combinations.

So, here are my suggestions:
Sor 6/Mage of the Arcane Order 4/Wayfarer Guide 1/Elemental Savant 9
or
Sor 6/Mage of the Arcane Order 4/Sacred Exorcist 10

Hey, would it be appropriate to suggest another character class? As in, a druid, who I think would be much more fun to play at level 20 than a sorceror. Think of all those high-end powers that druids get. Besides, a druid's spell list is just as good as a sorcerors.

So I say that your 20th level sorceror should take 20 levels of druid. :)
