The Bestiary Has Arrived!

Comp copies, I'm sorry to say, have been slow in going out. Normally Will handles sending them all at once, but he was under the gun for the past couple of weeks getting Gorilla Warfare (new Feng Shui sourcebook) ready for press -- it just left for the printer today. Unfortunately, Will is out of the office the next two days.

To help, I've been packing up a bunch of the comp copies. Will took a huge stack of them to the post office today, but there are still a lot more to go. (I packed another dozen sets of comp copies up this evening, as I was working late.) I expect to pack up the rest of them in the next day or two, but they probably won't go to the post office until Monday. Then it's in the hands of the USPS, and Book Rate isn't too fast, so it may be a week or two until some folks get theirs.

On the bright side, west coast distributors should all have copies now, and indeed most stores around the USA should. So it's a good time to ask about it at your FLGS, check out a copy if they have one (and protest if they don't!), and brag about your contributions. :)

Finally got to leaf through this tonight and I like it a lot. Every critter I looked at made me say, "Yeah, I could build a neat adventure around that", which is pretty much my personal benchmark for good creatures. I also got a big kick of of the Asian-themed creatures, Mindcrime.

Should anyone care, my critters are:

Cuckoo
Time Spider
Child of the Dark / Child of the Light

cheers,

Picked this up last week. It looks like a fantasic book; paging through, many monsters jumped out at me as interesting. My only bugs would be about layout; the cursive font printed on dark background for the non-OGL flavor literally gives me a headache trying to read. And having the dark portions on the outer edges of the pages seems claustraphopic to me, as opposed to the templates section in back that has the dark portions on the bottom. However, that latter feeling went away quickly, as I got used to it and was intrigued again and again...

All in all, well worth the $45 for a HUGE book of imaginative critters. And make sure you read Michele's forward. :)

Here's a question from someone who might be using creatures from this book in his own d20 writing projects:

When the description isn't OGC, can I describe the creature in my own words? (I'm assuming yes.)

This looks like a great book, by the way. Congrats to all involved.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

My personal apologies for those authors who are still waiting on their contributor's copies. Believe me, I know how you feel (though not, of course, on this book). That some authors have already received their copies bodes well for those of you whose copies went out today or are going out tomorrow. Within the States, Book Rate sometimes moves surprisingly fast.

Over the course of the book's development, I came to admire a lot of the monsters already mentioned in this thread. As a contributing author (who wasn't an Atlas employee back then), I often recognize good work with jealousy. A good deal of the monsters in the book made me awfully envious. It's great to see the authors standing up and being recognized for their individual works.

Just got my copy in the mail - beautiful book, I must say! :D Thanks to the Atlas crew! Oh, and I contributed the following:

L'er
Yunggulur

Enjoy! ;)

My copy arrived yesterday from Enworld/RPGShop, and I gotta say wow - I couldn't put this down all last night. Excellent, *excellent* job by *everyone* involved. So many great new monsters and so many great new ideas, I don't know where to begin. I really liked the angels section, and all the new undead, and the Pouka (sp?), the dog soldiers, and I know I'm forgetting dozens and dozens more.

This is definitely a must-have, folks. :)

Edit: Can't believe I forgot to give a shout out to the Skinwalkers!
