First Post
Hullo Guy and Gals,

So character builds aimed at capturing the flavour of famous literary but not fantasy characters --- I'd love to hear your ideas.... think out side the box / hex grid to make something the feels right but can stand on it own and have a life and identify that is fun to play

My ideas:

Long John Silver ---R L Stevenson
Race: Dhampir
Class/es: 3 lv Swashbuckler / 3lv Valor Bard
Background: Sailor
Feats: Inspiring Leader

Sherlock Homes --- A C Doyle
Race: Human (variant)
Class: Rogue: Inquisitive
Background: Master Inquisitor
Feats: Observent, Alert

Atticus Finch --- H Lee
Race: High Elf
Class: Cleric of Life / Whispers Bard
Background: Scholar

Gregor Samsa --- F Kafka
Race: Were-
Kreen
Class: Warlock of the Raven Queen
Background: Guild Artisan

Neat idea!

My takes (going beatnik):

William Lee - William S. Burroughs
Race: Tiefling (since we don't have Thri-kreen yet!)
Class: Wizard
Background: Criminal

Jack Duluoz - Jack Keroac
Race: Half-elf
Class: Ranger
Background: Far Traveller

I actually made a rogue styled after Sherlock Holmes. He's 12th in my campaign, 20 INT. Relatively low dex, but in addition to Observant I gave him Keen Mind as well. Has a decent WIS, and he is OUTSTANDING at noticing things that the DM wants noticed, and many traps and such that he doesn't. I made him an Arcane Trickster as it seemed silly to have a super high INT rogue and not do so, but I tried to keep his spells to the less flashy stuff. Expertise in Open Locks and Sleight of Hand as well as Perception and Investigation of course. Passive Investigation is 25, Passive Perception is 23, which seems like a good approximation of Sherlock. He's obviously not optimized for fighting, but with Sharpshooter and his hand xbow he does manage to get his licks in. He's been a fun character.

As for other famous characters, in the campaign I DM, I made a Revenant with levels in ranger and rogue, dressed him in red, and he talks a lot of trash. And yes, he's a mercenary :)
