The call to other worlds.

The Inducement:

Would you sacrifice everything here for a shot somewhere else-- that has been discussed.

But turn the tables. The wizard is there. He wants /you/ as his hero. At any price. What price would you ask for? Now, remember, the wizard is subject to the rules of the other world. He might be able to give you a new body, teach you magic or other skills, but he can't make you a god, and presumably you'll be outfitted appropriately for adventure anyhow.

But-- bags of gold for your family? Memory wipe spells?

Also, given two days to decide and gather an adventuring party to be appropriately transformed, and the price to be left behind-- would you, could you?

(The Transworld Classifieds: Archwizard named Lorien seeks party for celebration in alternate world. Elves, dwarves, handsome princes provided, along with heart-racing adventure wooing foreign princesses. Suggest beautiful golden-blondes apply elsewhere.)

I think if given two days to gather some people who could all decide what they wanted to be...I can think of at least two, possibly three other people that'd come with me. We'd have a fine old time...up until we suffered a TPK for some dumb reason, knowing our luck...

But yes, I would go with two days. Although I wouldn't tell anyone else where I was going, because I wouldn't want to spend those two days locked up somewhere with people trying to work their way into my head.:D

Anybody? Anybody?

(Boss, this recruitment drive isn't going so well. There's the ones who'll do it for free, immediately, and, well... maybe they're all busy with their jobs. We'll give it a little while longer, whaddaya say, boss?)

Nothing. The wizard can save those resources to combat whatever evil that heroes are needed to combat.

Edit: On second thought, I might ask for some gold to pay off my college loans and car.

I know people I could ask that would probably come along. Heck- I could just post here for a handful. ;)

payment:

1. the equivalent of $250,000 in gold or gems to be left behind for my family, and $50,000 to be distributed among those of my friends who would not come along

2. truly outstanding abilities for my new body (Str20Dex16Con22Int18Wis24Cha16)

a party:
no problem...

Heh Lorien. The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay is the best trilogy I've ever read. I cried when [EDITED TO REMOVE SPOILER] died. I mean, crying as in putting the book down, grabbing a tissue, and getting up to walk it off. In fact, I'm tearing up now just thinking about it. Shame on you for reminding me! :)

[EDIT: READ THE FIONAVAR TAPESTRY :D ]

Hmm... Firstly, I'd request to be polymorphed into an elf and be teached magic... Then, some significant bags of gold to leave behind for the friends and family...

As for the party... No problem there. Now that I think of it, we even have weaponry to go around... Two bokkens, two nunchaku, a rapier, a sabre, two longswords... As for classes, I'm thinking two samurai, a cleric, and random assortment of others...

Ok, now this is an idea I can get behind.

First, I'm not going without my husband. And my dog, who can be transformed into my familiar. I've always wanted to know what she's thinking anyway. And I think I'll need to gather several other folks for the party. I've got two in mind right off the top of my head.

I suppose I'll ask to have all of us transformed into younger, super healthy & fit versions of ourselves. I think we all need to be about 6th level. I get to be a wizard! (But I'll probably take one level of fighter so I can defend myself after the spells run out). My husband will want to be a sneaky rogue type. Our friends will probably be a cleric and a ranger. We can hire mercenaries to do the heavy lifting, I figure.

Ok, when do we leave?

*grin*

I told my BF we'd be taking our dog as well. She's very goofy and silly (only 1.5 years old and still puppyish) but, well... she'd have fun!

Hadn't occurred to me that she could be a familiar, though. Neat!
