Once again, slick silver fluid pools over Echo's skin, making her a metal silhouette. Sliver jut out from her outstretched hands, like quills on a porcupine, then launch through the air at the feeder the other two have been shooting arrows at!

Everybody was Time-Fu Fighting...

Wisco moves, trying to stay out of trouble and using his dart thrower against the third chronal feeder as directed by Duncan.

[sblock=OOC]Wisco Speed Defense [roll0] +3 Speed Points. Wisco is trained in Might Defense, but not Speed Defence. Armor 2.
Wisco Attack (Dart Thrower) [roll1]. Dam 2.[/sblock]

Wisco's dart lodges in one of the chronal feeder's many joints, making it lurch in surprise. But it's not enough to prevent the feeder from clamping its mandibles onto Wisco's arm, their hard and serrated edges crushing the flesh even through his armor!

[sblock=OOC]Take 5 damage, minus 2 armor, equals 3 damage.[/sblock]

The screams from the chronal feeders send a chill down Antor's spine and he almost feels the urge to make a run for it. He's grown fond of those around him and considers them to be friends, however, and holds his ground. The chill turn to a sweat as he follows Wisco's lead and pulls his bow and fires upon the third chronal feeder.

1d20=15

OOC: - When they're within immediate range, he'll pull his broadsword.
OOC:

The arrow flies straight and true into the same one Wisco had wounded, the flight going oddly, seeming to slow when it reached it, then suddenly accelerating into its side. It gives another shriek of anguish as Antor readies himself for close combat against the monsters.

Once again, slick silver fluid pools over Echo's skin, making her a metal silhouette. Sliver jut out from her outstretched hands, like quills on a porcupine, then launch through the air at the feeder the other two have been shooting arrows at!

(Blastopower! [roll0])

Echo's silvery power splashes against the chronal feeder's hide with no discernible affect, her silver swirling along its purple chitin in a way very beautiful to look at.

[sblock=OOC]Echo also feels a faint but definite tug behind her, where the duracha is protecting himself with his shield. It's not strong enough to throw you off right now, but there's some pressure to be at his side.[/sblock]

The other two chronal feeders advance, one snapping at Antor, but can't get a grip on the slippery archer.

[sblock=OOC]Antor - Rolled a Speed Defense for you and got a 16 on the die. Remember to make both Defense and Attack rolls for yourself, please. :)[/sblock]

The other lunges at Duncan, just missing him as he dodges nimbly aside, and then the gladiator brings his greatsword into play, chopping down hard on the beast's head, making chitin crack and spray everywhere. The chronal feeder is still alive, but streams of light emanate from its wound. From above, the stream of light that was descending is getting closer, almost low enough for someone to jump up and touch...

[sblock=OOC]Duncan, rolled an attack for you and got a 12 on the die, you did 6 damage. Roll your attacks and defenses together; it saves time. :)[/sblock]

Duncan knows that his role here is to keep the others safe while they do the exploring; rather than leaping into the light, he takes advantage of his momentum and follows up with another swing at the chrono-beast. Kill it, his inner-computer informs him, and the others are that much closer to being safe.

Duncan's mind flashed back to the last battle of the arena, how he'd fought off the beasts while the less-powerful slaves made good their escape. This was no different: living beings were under threat from the monsters of this world, creatures like himself that had been built to be more lethal than they.

[sblock=ooc]
Speed Defense against their next attack [roll0]
Follow-up attack against the same Chrono-beast [roll1]

Can I spend some intellect points on the attack, to lower the difficulty? It would represent his recent bout of depression and existential crisis vs his current flashback, helping him remember his purpose so he can fight off monsters attacking his companions. [/sblock]

Seregal blinks at the situation, but eventually shakes out his fugue. He quickly holds up his shortbow with trembling fingers and fires an arrow at one of the feeders.

[SBLOCK] I fire an arrow at the feeder! Will spend a level of Speed effort.

Echo suffers a moment of insecurity when her attack fails...but her attention is distracted by the slowly descending ribbon of light. Was it dangerous? Or maybe helpful?

She squints at it, and feels information flooding her mind as tiny instruments working in concert fix themselves upon the phenomenon and pry into its secrets.

(OOC - Using Scan on the energy ribbon.)

Duncan slides out of the way of the chronal feeder's attack easily, and retaliates against the one they've been targeting, his sword slashes down hard to sever the chronal feeder's head from its body. (Heads rolling across the sands as the arena floor danced and shifted and changed and tried to suck him down too, never!)

[sblock=OOC]Ehhh.... all right, I'll let you spend Int points for Effort on your attack this time.[/sblock]

Seregal blinks at the situation, but eventually shakes out his fugue. He quickly holds up his shortbow with trembling fingers and fires an arrow at one of the feeders.

[SBLOCK] I fire an arrow at the feeder! Will spend a level of Speed effort.

The shortbow's arrow quickly finds its way to one of the unwounded feeder's segments, making it shriek. It snaps at Seregal in retaliation, hoping to sink its mandibles into his tender flesh, but Seregal is nothing if not good at self-preservation, and evades with a swirl of robes.

[sblock=OOC]Do 4 points of damage, and I rolled Speed Defense for you, and you made it.[/sblock]

The last feeder makes a shrieking sound as it lunges... and vanishes from view, winking out as if the air had just swallowed it up.

Antor bends his bow to fire at the remaining chronal feeder with Seregal, his bow bending back easily and slamming another shaft that seems to accelerate right through one of its legs.

[sblock=OOC]Rolled attack for you, got a 16.[/sblock]

Xaion waits, wary that the third feeder may return, and stands ready to attack if it should.

Scanning the energy ribbon, the feedback comes back loud and clear - chronally-shifted mental power.

Wisco also delays his action, and the tree whispers into his mind.

[sblock=What Does the Tree Say?]You remember, the skydock was over there, a short run over that way, waiting in the earth, ready to spring into the sky again when triggered...[/sblock]

[sblock=Everyone Read]Remember, the GM doesn't roll in Numenera, so when you guys roll your attacks, roll your Speed Defense at the same time so I know if a monster hits you or not.[/sblock]

Having gotten the data, Echo isn't sure what to do with it right away. Mental power...altered in how it flowed in time. She wasn't sure if it was from past or future, or if it had simply been accelerated or slowed. All she knew for sure was that these creatures seemed to feed on it. Could it be used somehow?

She wondered, was it the energy siphoned away from the Augurs in the city?

But the battle didn't wait for one person. She aimed another volley of silver spikes at the most-wounded looking creature to try to buy time to decide what to do with this phenomenon.

Echo also called out, "Those ribbons are mental energy that's been affected by some kind of time shift!" Just because she didn't know immediately what to use them for didn't mean no one else would.

(OOC - Onslaught for physical damage.)
[roll0]

And inviscastle for defense, because I'm a goober and forgot to include it here, then did the dice roller wrong in my 'oops' post, so...ARGH. This dieroller is not well suited to people like me, who rarely get it right the first try. :)

Defense: 6!

Antor quickly scans the area looking for the creatures to reappear, while switching to his broadsword. "I would suggest we keep moving towards the bridge and the city gates", Antor announces to those within hearing distance. He continues movement in that direction scanning around himself as he goes, wary of the creatures' return.

Attack - 1d20=17
Defense - 1d20=9
