The illumination of the breezeway is subtle and tactful, torches in sconce in recessed stonework. There are no fancy drapes, no bourgeois tapestries with exotic embroidery. Just the cold, hewn stone, the finished wood of the shutters, the flickering flames, and the soft sigh of the wind just outside those shutters. At the end of the hall is a set of closed double doors, inevitably leading to what you seek.</p><p></p><p>At the mid-point of the breezeway, bisecting your route, there is suddenly light...the crashing rumble of a collision of terrible magnitude and a great shaking beneath your feet that threatens to steal your equilibrium. Where once there a great stone breezeway, where once there was a stout patriot, eager to see to his King and Queen, now there is nothing but open air. Where once there was silence, now the mournful howl of the wind and the sounds of deadly combat. At the precipice of the shattered breezeway you can see the perpetrator as the stonework and the broken body falls away; an enormous boulder, sent to flight by a giant catapult, strategically placed to achieve this distance and height.
