The Circle of Eight Scavenger Hunt

I'm starting up a new campaign. The gimmick is that the party are all arcane spellcasters. The premise is that the PCs are representatives of their guild, which has a long-standing rivalry with another guild. Every year the guilds hold a competition, usually some form of magical duel, rather like Ivy League rivalries or Eton and Harrow. Anyway, this year, being the 100th anniversary of the founding of both Guilds, the leaders have decided to do something 'special', not to mention dangerous. The Circle of Eight have agreed to participate by sending both teams on a Flaness-wide scavenger hunt, locating eight exotic items and presenting them to the appropriate member. The first team to collect all eight 'reciepts' and present them to Mordenkainen will be deemed the winner of the contest.

What I need is eight sufficiently tough items. The PCs will start at about 10th level, but increases in level can of course be factored in. All throughout the campaign, the rival team will be competing with them, though one of the rules of the contest is that they cannot actually kill or harm the other team.

This is what I have so far. Actually finding the items, and then transporting them to the mages, is a challenge in itself. Anyway, so far, I have...

* a philosopher's stone, to be delivered to Bigby.
* a sword with the power of speech, to be delivered to Theodain.
* a lich's phylactery, to be delivered, intact, to Alhamazad
* a live Efreet to Otto
* a shield guardian and its key amulet to Nystul

I still need items for Starcoat, Jallarzi and Drawmij. Each item should be at least a moderate quest in itself to retrieve, and none of them should be powerful or major artefacts. Any ideas?

Hmm.
Cool idea.

I might suggest that you think about the kind of adventure you want to run in crafting the items.
I.e. if you’re keen on seeing demons the game then something from a demon, if you want a dragon then a dragon, if you want to involve them in some sort of political conflict then the conflict.

I think the key question is: the eight agreed to help out… what is their agenda? (they or members at least, should have one)
What do the eight’s enemies think?
