Star Wars the Clone Wars Campaign Guide

There are many different eras of the Star Wars game and it is good to see that there are different campaign guides coming out for the different eras. The Clone Wars were always something people wondered about and now that there has been movies and cartoons and other media to fill in this part of the story it is great to see the role playing game getting similar treatment. The Clone Wars Campaign Guide is a great addition to the game for people wanting to play in this era and offers plenty of character options that can be used for people just looking for a book that offers them game options.

The Clone Wars Campaign Guide is the newest book (at the time this review is written) to be published by Wizards of the Coast. Like the rest of the books in the series is is square shaped and hard cover. The book is a bit over two hundred and twenty pages long and in full color. The book is written by Rodney Thompson, Patrick Stutzman, and JD Wiker. Each of them a known Star Wars writer and obvious fan. The full color art and lay out are of the high quality all the books in the series have been and the art is mostly drawn with fewer movie stills used.

The book has the usual new races, class options, feats, skills, prestige classes and equipment. This part of the book is all good and useful for anyone that plays the game no matter what era the game is in. There is starting to get to be a lot of these options and with the many different eras a campaign can be set it it would be great to see a spread sheet or something that listed everything and showed what eras it would be most appropriate for. An on line index showing the different options and what books they are in would be useful as well. None of this really detracts from the book, just some useful additions that I hope someone is able to do to make the series of books more useful for everyone playing the game.

There is a chapter on planets. It does present over a dozen new worlds I think additional source material for them would be useful. The part of the chapter I really enjoyed was the updates of the more well known worlds. I like that they go into a little depth with them explaining what is happening on these worlds during the Clone Wars. The information on what is happening on Bespin is very useful and allows the use of a planet very well known from the age of the rebellion to be used during the clone Wars.

The Jedi get a good amount of face time in the book as they should. There is a chapter on new force abilities and other game mechanics for them as well as what is going on with them during the Clone Wars. There are plenty of NPCs in here of the more famous Jedi. The information on the Jedi service corps is really interesting. It is nice to see the support staff and students of the force have something to do.

One thing I would have liked to have seen is a little more information on the Clone Wars. A section of the major events and battles would be useful. A time line could be nice but that kind of exact detail is not as needed. I would just like to have seen an order of events and those do not have to be everything that went on in the war. But just a good line of battles and events from the beginning till the end would be especially useful for running a campaign in the Clone Wars era.

The Clone Wars Campaign Guide is packed with a lot of different information. The focus is a bit more on the mechanics then the setting and I would have liked to seen less stat blocks and of seemingly everything. The book still is very useful with some good information on the Clone Wars and offers the tools for such a campaign.
