The Closed Eye (DM: Halford, Judge: garyh)

[sblock=Wow]
Palindrome's backstory is almost as fun as his antics. Great stuff!

Tander is quite boring compared to the others. :(
But his dark side will reveal itself soon enough. He's in for quite a nasty surprise when he discovers the meaning of his dream.

[sblock=Wake up, Tander!]I’m definitely looking forward to learning more about Tander’s background.

He did something bad to that girl in his dream, didn’t he? ;)[/sblock]

Neera just shakes her head in disbelief, carefully sets down the bust that Woe deposited in her lap, and leads the way out of the building.

Marn Mansion proves to be only a few blocks from the Glasston residence, though definitely a few steps down in the social ladder. There are no guards in shiny breastplates in this neighborhood, nor would anyone notice a cracked cobblestone or two. The houses are old here, too, but poorly maintained and visibly deteriorating. Marn Mansion itself is set back on a low hill, and its wide, unmowed lawn is surrounded by a brick wall covered in dying ivy.

Because of the slope, you can see a little bit into the windows of the house, enough to see the occasional figure moving around, but little else.

Woe brings out his spear and shifts his weight from one foot to another, eager to get into trouble.

“Right, let’s get to it. I say we sneak around and locate Arnest, club him, bag him, and stab anyone who gets in our way. Oh, and stab anyone with an Eye symbol for good measure.”

The merc makes no attempt at hiding his anticipation but is interrupted when a jolt seems to run through his left hand, making it shake vigorously. He curses in pain and clenches it tightly, waiting for the moment to pass. Unfazed, he continues as if nothing has happened.

“Let’s not give them the luxury of cutting their own throats this time. That was just too… unsatisfying. Not to mention rude.”

“I’ll take point,”
Woe gestures demonstratively at the mansion with his spear, a goofy grin on his face. “Because I’m armed with a… Eh, nevermind.”

OOC: Thanks, Tander!

[sblock=Out of Character]
It doesn’t mesh at all with his psychology, and I don’t think it’s fair to have one member adjust his playing style to accommodate for another member’s playing style.

Wasn't asking you to change your behavior or make the game 'un-fun'. I was asking for assistance.

I also knew that it doesn't fit with Woe's behavior--thus the (Tander?) comment. Tander is good aligned and tends to have the 'soft touch' in the group.

Knowing out-of-game the in-game reason why a PC would want to kill another PC does not change which player is responsible for keeping it from happening.

I was taking responsibility for the action.

Hence, the explanation of Palindrome's behavior, which I wanted to keep from public light for a while longer, along with the request for other players' help to provide an in-game reason to keep it from happening, since my character can't provide one for himself.[/sblock]

Palindrome slips on the necklace.

"Why don't we set one portion of the house on fire, then attack the other side while they're distracted?"

"Why don't we set one portion of the house on fire, then attack the other side while they're distracted?"
Tander opens his mouth to speak, and then, thinking better of it, closes his mouth and simply shakes his head with the slightest hint of a grin. He observes Woe's painful twitch with concern, but decides not to say anything about that, either.

"I'd feel better if we knew more about who- or what - is inside. I guess we have but one way to find out."

Palindrome raises a sage finger. "When they run outside, screaming, 'FIRE! FIRE!' we'll know the identity of the occupants without doubt."

"Besides, they are not us, so what does it matter?"

[sblock=If the Party Approves...]Palindrome casts 'Flaming Burst' on the house in a couple or twelve locations to get a nice fire started. Then, he runs away to join the rest of the party around back.[/sblock]

"It sounds a bit risky, Palindrome. What if we accidentally incinerate some innocents, or Arnest himself? No, I cannot go along with that course of action."

Tander pauses to think. "Now if the fire were illusory, I might be willing to consider it. I've seen your talent for magical trickery... Perhaps now is a time to put it to the test."

"Er..."

"It will be completely illusory. In fact, it will be such a perfect illusion that it will seem completely real."

"I'm just that good."

“I’ll scout ahead to get a closer look, fellows. If we can isolate Arnest and confirm that only cultists are left in the joint, I wouldn’t mind letting Pal torch them in.”

“Let’s take one thing at a time, though.”

[sblock=Doing the sneaky stuff]Unless anyone objects Woe would like to sneak a little closer to stakeout the mansion (finally getting to use my feat, wee!).

Atreus would probably want to join, being trained in Stealth himself.[/sblock]
