Woe climbs up on a barrel and retrieves the crossbow. Palindrome, Atreus, and Tander the walls, floor and ceiling carefully, examining every discernable feature, but do not find a control panel. They are forced to conclude that the control panel is not in the visible portion of this stairway. If it exists, it must be either above in the house, or below in areas not yet explored.

Atreus crawls up the ladder and starts to look for the control panel there. "I am not sure if we would be wasting our time looking for the control panel when there are almost no traps left to handle, but if we find it, other traps further down the escape tunnel might be deactivated. What do you think? "

Working together, you scour the room above the trap door and finally find a loose floorboard. Lifting it reveals a small bank of cryptic knobs and levers. Clearly it is the control panel, but how does it work?

If you look back, I'm pretty sure you'll find that the only perception check made in this room was Woe's initial one where he found the trap door. And that wouldn't have hit this DC unaided.

Palindrome made Perception checks for every room in the house.[/sblock]

Palindrome pinches the bridge of his nose. "Suddenly, I find that I am very annoyed with myself. I wonder why that is?"

Then, he pulls out his hatchet and smashes the ever-loving bejeezus out of the panel, screaming, "Who's the smart one now, ?! Who's the smart one now?!"
