The Closed Eye (DM: Halford, Judge: garyh)

Tander makes his way back to the tower, oblivious to what is going on around him in the street. Why won't this cursed veil of forgetfulness pass, he thinks. Tander had often thought that being brought close to death might trick his mind into remembering its own past, but could not find anyone in any holy order willing to partake of such an experiment. Having been brought down in battle, however briefly, has closed yet another door on Tander's finding out his own past.

Tander finds his way to the tower, sits down in a chair, and attempts to collect his thoughts. He looks down at the letter from Palindrome and sighs, a very small grin forming on his lips.

OOC: Okay, well firstly sorry for the delay folks. We should be able to get back to our more or less daily posting schedule now. I am working on an IC post as we speak which may take a while, so please hold onto those equines until I am done and we will get rolling. :D

ooc: The judges have come out of their huddle, and it looks like I'll be taking over as DM for this. It will take me a few days of reviewing the thread and the adventure proposal before I'm really ready to advance things, but... I seem to recall some discussion of the idea of recruiting another player a while ago. What happened with that? Is there interest there? 'cause I'm sure we could find more players somewhere...

Actually, though there was a little reluctance to begin with, I thought everyone came around? Atriden was working out details for his inclusion in the game with Halford during Christmas.

Either way is no problem with me, though. I'm just happy to have the game back. :)

[sblock=status]Okay, I've dug my way through all the proposal emails and this thread again, and I think I'm about as up to speed as I can get. I admit to a certain degree of performance anxiety, since Graf and Halford have IMO done an excellent job of crafting an interesting, flavorful urban mystery adventure, and I'm not entirely sure I can live up to their high standard. On the other hand, they're not here, and I am. So, onward![/sblock]

[sblock=recruitment]Rereading, it seems like the most recent consensus was that Atriden's character was welcome. That works well for me, since the math of the system is geared towards having at least a four person party, and I won't have to figure out how to adjust it. So Atriden is in. Atriden, I'll work you in IC shortly.[/sblock]

In our last episode

The party defeated a pair of... what were they again? Something large, unpleasantly strong, and without even the good grace to surrender and succumb to torture after losing. Among their possessions was a bag of holding, which contained Neera, a.k.a. Tiptoes, a young halfling girl who provided some answers that went a long way toward explaining what is going on. She offered to guide the party to Maln Mansion, where she had seen Arnest Glasston in the company of the Open Eye cultists. The party decided to rest for the night first at Doddoddod's tower.

Meanwhile, Palindrom discovered the exsanguinated body of a dead, naked elven girl in the next room, and relieved her of a magical necklace. He found that when he put this necklace on, his companions did not remember his name, and seemed a little unsure who he was. Elated, he dashed off a note in Doddoddod's handwriting instructing the party to meet at the tower, and departed immediately to see if the obscuring effect worked on a certain shopkeeper...

[sblock=Atreus]One day a letter reaches you at your current place of residence, bearing your name in a familiar florid script. The envelope smells faintly of garlic and sulfur. Opening it, you are unsurprised to find a letter from Doddoddod. You have done minor jobs for him in the past, usually of a mundane and somewhat demeaning nature, such as fetching a certain brand of jelly-filled pastry in the middle of the night because they were supposedly fresher then. Doddoddod is a repulsive old bastard, but he pays well.

The letter reads as follows. "Atreus. I hope this letter finds you in good health and available for immediate employment on a job of some delicacy. My apprentice, whom I'm sure you remember -- ordinary looking chap, bit of a foul mouth, dresses with a modesty and humility most becoming in one of his inferior station -- has taken on a job on my behalf. The job itself is hardly important, some minor errand or other, but the customer is a lady of some influence and taste. I would like her to be impressed, and I'm afraid in hindsight that my apprentice may find even this simple task beyond his meager talents, despite the fact that I've lent him several of my more competent attendants. I would like you to accompany him and keep him from getting caught doing anything that would embarrass me with Lady Glasston, the employer I spoke of earlier. Your reward will be something suitable to the difficulty of the task. If you are amenable, please present yourself at my estate at your earliest convenience."

The wizard's signature fills the rest of the page.
