'Sensing some magic here. Think its part of the alarm system, but I'm not sure. The height of the auras don't correspond with what I know about the Eye of Alarm ritual. There's one weak aura at each corner of the building and one strong in the center.'

[sblock=GM]Scanning the stronger aura. Arcana. (1d20+10=29)[/sblock]

Atreus joins Woe and skulks along with him. While running he eyes Woe suspicously and tries to get a better glimpse at his hand. " Interesting " he say's and starts to focus more on the objective at hand.
Woe seems a little uneasy at this act and doesn’t comment, though he repeatedly pulls the glove of his shield hand well in place, as if it was slipping off. Central patches are stitched on both sides of the glove, unlike the one on his main hand.

"Furthermore, he's such a nutcase about his 'reputation' that he pays through the nose to sweep anything unpleasant under rug--like that time Woe bedded the daughter, wife, and sister of the ambassador of the Kingdom of Jade, at the same time, while visiting Doddoddod for a divination about how faithful his wife was! Did you see that one in the papers? Nope!"

“Shhh! That last assassin the ambassador sent actually managed to locate some gambling den I frequent. Good thing his next informant was me, and his final lead the seafloor by Daunton’s seediest harbor. I’m telling you, fellas, that kingdom got spies everywhere!” Even as Woe peers around suspiciously, he can’t hide a wide smile on his lips when he recalls the memories. “Still, that was some family reunion. Curvaceousness and soprano vocals run in the ambassador’s family, that’s for sure!”

Considering that no one has found signs of immediate threats, Woe changes the subject by stepping up to the half-open door. He slowly pushes it open at a distance with his spear-tip, and if nothing seems to happen, he heads in to take a look around with shield and spear at the ready.

“Magic auras or not, we can’t stand around here all day.”

[sblock=Team theme]Curiously, it seems our gang is also united in unusual hand features (even if Palindrome’s extra fingers were only temporarily). :D

I’m sure those auras are just for housekeeping magic and not deadly traps! :p[/sblock]

Woe pushes the door open with his spear and heads inside. The doorway leads into a central hallway, with several rooms on each side leading away from it.

The first room on the right (north) is a large sitting room, undecorated, but with comfortable furniture. There is a thick rug on the floor against the northern wall. This is the room you could see into from outside.

Next is a closed door, probably a closet from the positions of the adjacent rooms. The position is right for the source of the central aura to be inside.

Last on the right is a kitchen, with a large hearth with a chimney, fire still flickering warmly. Bundles of herbs, half rounds of cheese, and other non-perishable food items, are neatly arranged on shelves.

On the left are three bedrooms, one larger than the others. The smaller bedrooms each have two pairs of sturdy bunks, while the large bedroom has a wide, comfortable-looking bed.

While inspecting the residence, Woe bags any mundane valuables they come across (silverware, candelabra, etc). When finding the kitchen with preserved food supplies, he grabs a piece of beef jerky. He sniffs it, tastes it, and if it seems edible and not poisonous, he munches on it while they continue their search.

Woe makes a careful search of the large bedroom with the prominent bed. Anything invaluable that might hold hidden items is cut up or broken apart to be searched, be it furniture, pillows, clothing, or something else. If nothing comes up, he leans back on the bed and lounges casually while chewing on beef jerky.

“So, Pal, where exactly did you sense that strong aura again?”

A 20 on searching the bedroom!

With Woe searching the main bedroom so thoroughly, Tander distractedly searches the two smaller bedrooms, peeking at his hands every minute or so to be sure what he experienced under the tree actually happened.

OOC: Perception 8. Doh.

There is nothing of value in the bedroom, despite Woe's most destructive efforts. He does notice, however, that the bed is slightly askew from the walls. Looking closer, he notices fresh scratches in the floorboards near the bedposts, as if the bed was recently moved. Looking under the bed, he sees a dusty rug, but, shoving the bed aside himself, there are areas around the edge of the rug that are bare of dust. The rug was recently moved.

Sure enough, there is a trap door beneath the rug.

ooc: KenHood, I didn't forget your other arcana check, I'm just waiting until Palindrome has line of sight to the aura to apply it.
