The Coming Of Conan the Cimmerian

Has anyone else seen this? It was totally under my radar till I saw it on my bookstores shelf and snatched it up.

Anyway, its a collection of Howard's first 13 Conan stories, with a few miscellania like early story drafts synopsis, maps, and comments by Howard. Theres also some notes on Conan stories chronlogy. 460 some odd pages a nice little collection, espeically since alot of the Robert E Howard books/stories in print(which are hard to find) are in those dinky tiny paperbacks which I hate.

It says Volume I hopefully more will come...

Hmm there are 2 maps in the appendices of the book, handrawn by REH rather crude that are overlaid on a crude map of "modern " Europe.

Theres also a poem titled Cimmeria and a neat little list of Hyborean countries, with examples of names from those countries, kings, and gods by REH.

Hmm when does the Conan rpg come out. The list price I last saw was 49.95, but Im getting into a Conan frame of mind....

These conan books are great. They are the original versions of the REH stories untainetd by the hand of L. Sprague DeCamp, who essentially butchard the barbarian. The stories are presented in the order written. The version that you can find in the bookstore is essentially a cheaper version of this one:

The hardback runs at @$200. So this version is well worth it.

It's on my to be purchased list. I saw it a few weeks before Christmas, but I was spending enough $, so I decided to wait on it. I'll probably pick it up in the next few weeks. I hope they release more of Howards other works like this as well.

Del Rey has an agreement with WanderingStar to print tradepaper backs of all but one of their works.

What this means is that over the next few years we will be seeing all the Conan, Soloman Kane and Bran Mac Morn stories in as close to their original format as possible,
