Antagonistic players will always find a way...

I once had the opposite happen, party of 5 PCs and a 6th was introduced to replace a dead PC. This new character (returning player) proceeds to start a fight in the street (because "that's what [his] character would do") and ends up arrested. The other players are already feeling like they don't have motivation to support this new guy they just met who couldn't regulate his emotions, but go to his trial to make sure he is treated fairly (and look for an opening to want to save him), during which he tells the magistrate he has a demon inside of him and that was why he was driven to fight!

The player wanted the others to break him out of the dungeon they put him into after that, but everyone else was like "You are making it hard for us to want to stick with you. . . maybe roll a different character instead. . . " which he eventually did.

I later brought back that character as an NPC in a campaign in the same setting about a decade later.
