Does anyone else remember the D&D coloring book from the early '80s, the one that actually sort of had a game included?

Hmm. I've got a D&D Coloring Book from the early 80s, but it didn't have a game included.

It was basically a "See Dick Run" with Strongheart, Warduke, and co.

That's not the one I remember. The one I recall had nothing to do with the TV show (or at least I don't think it did -- I didn't watch the TV show) -- the pictures were like stained-glass images with thick bold lines and filling up the space completely. I remember colouring the stone columns in some chamber... there was an umber hulk, I think, and a beholder...

One page was picture and the facing page was text, IIRC.

Grub seems to be getting greener...

The story poses the eternal question: An umber hulk battles a displacer beast. Who would win??

And... he meets Myconids just before he returns home and has mushroom stew. Maybe he should just have had myconic stew. :D

But nice art by Stan! He the man.

I had that. I remember distinctly a number of pages. One was the adventuring group gathered 'round a table in a tavern (some part of my brain tells me they were al fresco) just before they set out for the dungeon. Another was the attack by the Umber Hulk which IIRC killed one of the party members. Then there was the encounter with Tiamat, which went something like this: the party opens a door in the dungeon, they see Tiamat sitting on her hoard, they slam the door and keep moving. Gotta love those Gygaxian dungeons :).

Man - bringin' back the memories.

No, man, they're green. Really. It's just that colour hadn't been invented yet in 1974.

d00d,

from WotC's 3.11ed for workgroups SRD:

A goblin stands 3 to 3-1/2 feet tall and weigh 40 to 45 pounds. Its eyes are usually dull and glazed, varying in color from red to yellow. A goblin's skin color ranges from yellow through any shade of orange to a deep red; usually all members of a single tribe are about the same color. Goblins wear clothing of dark leather, tending toward drab, soiled-looking colors. Goblins speak Goblin; those with Intelligence scores of 12 or higher also speak Common.
Most goblins encountered outside their homes are warriors; the information in the statistics block is for one of 1st level.
