The Destroyer - any fans here?

I was a HUGE fan back in '83 or so? There was a used book store in the mall, literally a store in the corner. As in, no store there and they put up diagonally wall and had a used book store. I found the series there and they had a lot. They were only a dollar a piece and I must have read one every three days.

I was SO excited when the movie came out as it was rated with the "new" PG-13 rating and I was 13. So, I had permission to bike down to the theater and see it. I loved it!

I kept reading it until I caught up, somewhere in the #80s? I got a few more after that but then stopped reading late in high school. I would love another movie! I liked Fred Ward in the movie.

Oh, I also had the comic books as well. I still have them but don't have the books anymore.

Good memories! Thanks!

Any fans? Well, let's see. I'm 35 now, and when I was but a wee tyke, these were actually some of the first books I read on my own (and before that, she read them to me). My mom wasn't fond of things like Sesame Street and Seuss, so I got The Destroyer, Robert E. Howard, and my uncle's old Phantom books. So I've been reading about Remo, Chuin, and Harold Smith for most of my life.

I love The Destroyer. It had some rough spots a few years back, with a couple of authors who apparently hadn't actually read any Destroyer novels, and those novels have been excised from the canon. The newest author is one of the best since the original team split up (RIP Sapir), even if he's a touch more right-wing than I was used to. Unfortunately, the most recent news I've seen about the series (a couple weeks ago) is that it's basically going on indefinite hiatus. Something about the publishing company not committing or something. Very sad indeed. But there was also talk of a possible new movie (I despise Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, by the way).

So if you can find them, I suppose this might be a decent time to catch up on them.

It's a shame about the series. I've been reading it since just before the movie came out (I agree, not a great movie, but it brought the books a lot of new fans).

So far the books are still on hiatus, though there's a good possibility that if the movie begins production it would get the books a contract with a new publisher.

the sinanju.com site is a bit out-of-date. If you read the Wiki article on the books down to the end, there are links to two other sites -- www.sinanju.net and www.destroyerclub.com -- which are visited by the current authors, Warren Murphy and James Mullaney and post news as soon as it's known.
