The Devil's in the Details

Are you fighting this guy?!?

.....Or just "a devil"?

Based on what he has said, I'm pretty sure that they are just fighting a normal devil (most likely a Cornugan). His DM doesn't seem to have the best grasp of the treasure system, but I'm hoping that he's at least smart enough to not throw a group of 8th level characters up against a CR 37 Arch-devil. :p

I'm not sure why he referred to it as "the Devil", though...

Yeah. But you hear stories... shudder.

When my party found out that it was up against a powerful Lawful Evil Outsider that I couldn't put a name to from the description, we started calling it "the Devil." Although the DM's grasp of the treasure system is poor (Vorpal is the equivalent of +5 Enchantment! Has he even read the DM Guide?) he is not sending Asmodeus after us.

Didn't mean to confuse anyone.

One useful thing that druid could do would be to cast "greater magic fang" on the monk for a +2 to hit and damage and a chance to hurt that devil at all (unless he has x/+3 DR, but then you are pretty doomed, anyway).
nsruf, you got it. That's a great idea. Not only that, but it's one I probably should have come up with, since I've been thumbing through the PHB instead of doing anything constructive for about 36 hours.

LE Outsider could be ANYTHING! Heck I could make my DOG into it (not that I want to but adding the right template, not hard!) Anyway well that's just too bad. :)

Got any acid spells?

Regeneration (Ex): Cornugons take normal damage from acid, and from holy and blessed weapons of at least +2 enchantment.

On second thought, got any really good acid spells?

Resistances (Ex): Baatezu have cold and acid resistance 20.

Your fighter is using a sword of frost over a vorpal? Wow. Get him to break that habit during the devil fight. Devils are outsiders, and thus mortal and subject to being decapitated by a vorpal weapon. If his weapon is not already keen, I would reccommend that you cast Keen Weapon on it either just before or during the fight. Doubling the threat range is wonderful when combined with a vorpal blade.

vorpal +keen

Tiberius....i believe the sage has ruled that the vorpal enchantment only affects the weapons original threat range and isnt increased by keen edge spell or the keen enhancement

Well that's silly, and it contradicts the wording of the vorpal enchantment. From the SRD:
Upon a successful critical hit, the weapon severs the opponent’s head (if it has one) from its body.

I note it doesn't say anything about extended crit ranges not counting toward the vorpal effect. The wording of the Keen Edge spell also says nothing about not functioning in conjunction with the vorpal effect. Also, I would think that since the Sword of Kas seems to be designed for maximum whuppin' as a +6 unholy keen vorpal, the keen and the vorpal go well together. After all, there's very little point in having the keen effect on a vorpal longsword if the keen effect does not contribute to the vorpal. It's stuff like this and the waffling over the Dragon Disciple enlargement that made me stop listening to Skip.

[EDIT: It could, of course, be well-argued that the Sword of Kas should not be the basis of any rational argument. Regardless, there it is. :p ]
